Popping and Planting

Germinated using the good old 'damp paper towel' method, under a bowl raised up from a heating mat set on low

36hrs later.. pop,pop,pop,pop,pop

Transported using sterilized tweezers

Planting the germinated seeds into little pots, about 1/2 inch deep (pencil eraser), tap root down

Then moved into the Veg tent

3 days later, 5 beautiful little babies.

Quick Veg Tent stats

It's a small tent (2x2x4). I have an Inkbird RH controller keeping things at around 72%. A 4" AC infinity exhaust fan kicks in at 3min-on/6min-off intervals. When the humidifier kicks on, so does a fan inside the tent. This helps to diffuse the humidity, and give the plants a little wiggle.

Because of a Gnat issue actively being dealt with in my flowering tent I've dusted some diatomaceous earth on top of the soil in an attempt to help inoculate the soil.

A couple of weeks into Veg

its time to up-pot them. I'd normally be moving them into 2 gallon containers at this point, but I was waiting on a soil delivery so I has to work with smaller containers. I think the containers i uses are 1 quart. could be wrong...

Health looking roots

Into their new containers, and back into the tent. At this point I've added some food to the top of the soil, which then got watered in.

Six days later (3ish weeks into Veg) everyone is looking happy.

20240127_094004.jpg

I'm keeping the T5s only a couple of inches above the canopy.

That's where things stand as of today. Roots are already coming through the bottom of the containers, so they'll be going into 2 gallon containers sooner than later. Peace.

Transplanting into 2 Gallon containers
(3ish weeks into Veg)

They're ready to be moved into the 2 gallon containers.
The soil is a little damp, but hasn't been watered in days.
Here's how I go about it:

I place my hand over the container, with the stalk sitting in between my fingers.

20240128_152021.jpg

I flip it over, and with my free hand squeeze the sides of the container a little bit to loosen the grip on the soil. I then slide it gently upwards.

Beautiful looking roots, right!?
20240128_152109.jpg

I usually rest my free hand on the side of the exposed soil when I flip it over. The container has just enough soil in it to ensure that the plant's base sits slightly below the rim. I to my best to center it.
20240128_152146.jpg

Next I'll put soil at the base of each side, just to keep the plant stabilized.
20240128_152256.jpg

I can now pack in the remaining soil, without the risk of it tumbling over.
20240128_152445.jpg

20240128_152602.jpg

Once potted I'll amend the top of the soil with Veg nutrients, at half the manufacturers recommended amount. Then I'll water it in. I go light with the first part of the pour, using just enough to let the nutrients soak in a bit. After waiting a minute or so, I complete the watering.
20240128_152830.jpg

I now move the plants back into the Veg tent. Things needed to be adjust in order to accommodate the larger containers. I've replaced the static fan with an oscillating one that blowa across the top of the canopy.
20240128_161749.jpg

I've also added an additional T5 lamp (2 bulbs) to meet the needs of the larger footprint without compromising the amount of light they get.
20240128_161958.jpg

And that's where things sit today.
So far, things seem to be going well.
Peace.

Very Nice I am here to see em grow ! Hope it runs smoothly

Topping & moving to the flowering tent
(4ish weeks into Veg)

They've each developed 6 nodes, so now I'm going to top them just above the 5th node. This will be the first of 2 toppings that I'll do.

20240201_121016.jpg

As I'm moving them over to my work area I can see that they're already growing out of their 2 gallon containers. I'll need to move them into their 5 gallon containers sooner than later.

20240203_110908.jpg

A few lops to the tops

20240203_124924.jpg

Some feeding and watering

20240203_111322.jpg

And then back to the tent, where the healing begins

20240205_092424.jpg

After 2 more days I'm needing to acknowledge that they've outgrown the Veg tent, and need to move.
20240205_085857.jpg

Fortunately I just harvested my Jelly Donutz grow. It took a day to do a full clean up in my flowering tent, and then I moved in the Gazzurples. Still on an 18/6 lighting cycle. They're so much happier in there.

PPFD: 225-250
RH: 72%
CO2: 1000-1200ppm

They've had a busy few days. Unfortunately, after only a day in the new space they'll need to be up-potted. 5 gallon containers, here we come...

Up-Potting to 5 gallon containers
(4ish weeks into Veg)

And to top-off (pun intended) their busy (stressful) week, I moved them into 5 gallon containers.

20240206_084439.jpg

Look at them roots! Not as packed as I was worried they'd be.

20240206_084546.jpg

And then back into the tent, where they can finally rest and be left alone... (until I top them again in a week)

20240206_102023.jpg

I fed them, watered them well, and feel that I didn't overly stress them over the last few days. Fingers crossed, but I think that they're doing just fine. Time will tell.

Cheers!

When you up-pot, it's even easier to put an empty pot [the same size of the smaller pot] then just fill the bigger pot with it in place - you can jiggle it a bit to get it straight and bury it a bit
Firm it in slightly and lift it out, sprinkle a bit of myco then plop the plant in the perfectly sized hole
All you have to then is top it up a little
I find that easier than doing it with the plant already in the pot

I totally agree. What you're describing is the better approach in general.

I had an issue 2 grows ago, where I'd done just that (as I'd been doing up until then) but one of the hole's walls caved in... just as I was flipping over the plant to drop it in. I had poorly packed the walls. Trying to dig the hole out with one hand, while holding the plant upside down with my other hand, resulted in a disaster. the soil around the plant collapsed, and it took a bit of a hit. An issue with the planter (me) not the process. I'll likely go back to the hole method once my PTSD (dramatic) from the collapse subsides.

This fall I might try building out a bed of soil for the flowering tent. That'll make transplanting into pot-sized-holes all the easier.

I appreciate the quick feedback. Thanks Roy!
