Cutting the thick stem

I just went through my first harvest. I really had few problems until it came to cutting that thick stem. I thought a serrated kitchen knife would do it, but it was hard work. What's the best tool for cutting that super-thick woody stem at harvest time? Thanks.

I have one of those pruning shears, you can buy one for 10 bucks at Lowes or Home Depot. They also come in handy for pruning bushes in the yard and house plants.

I didn't know those were called "loppers" - and I have a pair in my garage that I use for outside plant maintenance. Not sure why I didn't think of that solution.

Thanks for the tip - I am preparing to harvest myself and this will make it a little easier with no additional expense.
