Former Convict Says He Knows Truth Of Corby Bust

A convicted drug smuggler says he knows how cannabis ended up in Schapelle Corby's bodyboard bag - but he is not telling.

In an interview last night on the Nine documentary Schapelle Corby: The Hidden Truth, Malcolm Christopher McCauley said: "I had nothing to do with it, believe me. How it happened is probably for another day."

The South Australian man, who made headlines after being photographed visiting Corby in her Bali jail and was interviewed for the documentary about two years ago, promised to reveal all after he was released from prison for his part in a cannabis trafficking syndicate.

"Give me 18 months, and I will tell you. I will be over the courts, then. Double jeopardy and everything. I had nothing to do with it. You can take that as gospel."

He said of Corby's bag: "It landed in Denpasar and she got caught and she admitted that it [the bag] was hers. What happened in between is a good story and the truth."

The documentary said McCauley was convicted for his part in a syndicate that trafficked up to 100 kilograms of cannabis from South Australia to northern Queensland from 2004 to 2005. He was sentenced to three years' jail and released last month.

No interviews appear to have been conducted with him since his release. The Herald was unable to contact him last night.

Corby's mother, Roseleigh Rose, said she met McCauley and his friend Dave McHugh in an Adelaide hotel after her daughter's trial.

But McCauley said they had met Corby during her trial.

Film shows Mercedes Corby thanking McCauley for attending. It also shows him, Mr McHugh and Schapelle chatting as she stood in a holding cell.

The documentary also showed her former lawyer Robin Tampoe complaining about the Corby family. 'These are the biggest pile of trash I have ever come across in my life. I have never seen a more ungrateful, nasty piece of work than this woman [Ms Rose] and this family."

Re: Former Convict Says He Dnows Truth Of Corby Bust

I watched the doco last night. I am now convinced she knew what was going on, and that it was her friends (James Cosini and his girlfriend) who placed the Cannabis in the boogie board. I also believe her father had a part in this.
Regardless of who did it, it is a tragedy that this young Aussie will lose her youth in a stinking hole like Kerobokan!

United Nations Driving Shapelle Mad

Shapelle is depressed BECAUSE OF THE UNITED NATIONS Conventions on Narcotics.

Shapelle is serving twenty years for the amount of cannabis smoked in New Zealand every 60 seconds. (@ 200+ tonnes per year)

The NZ Law Commission is examining NZ obligations under these covenants and treaties this year (see terms of reference). Human Rights AND Drug Policy is a key issue at UN Vienna meetings in July. (NZ delegation of 9 has 2 attending from Christchurch)

Reporting on this issue is long on history (how many times do we need to hear what she did) and short on insight on just how disproportionate the sentence.

She was lucky to escape the death penalty.

[Singapore hangs people for 500gms of what Oregon State (and twelve other states =33% of USA pop) would allow as medicine. ]

Enough to depress anyone!
