good soil

Tons and tons of good ones that can be made better at Home Depot. Pick a general potting soil and amend it with perlite, worm castings, and lime, and you'll be off to a good start at Home Depot.

Yep..
Toke - Home Depot does carry Pro-Mix.. I have had luck with

50% Pro-Mix
25% EW Castings
25% Perlite
2 Tbls of Dolomite Lime per gallon
Good luck!

sounds like the mix i ended up with. i'm cheap though. i recycle my soil and add casings or mushroom compost, perlite etc. no way i'm buying new soil everytime. i go alot by feeling the mix. lettin' that stuff sift through the fingers. its nice and relaxing as well. i'm thinking about adding some red worms to the mix.

i haven't tried the dolomite Lime. i will. i have also added some bonemeal.

so anyway.... buy the best you can on your budget.

i've noticed that the local walmart is starting to put all the seasonal grow supplies on sale. soil, ferts, composts are all starting to go on sale. i'm making a trip today to see what i can pick up. i'm gonna try to get as much backup materials as i can afford to get me through the winter.

there is no home depot near me. but this spring walmart had a decent selection and mine is a small walmart. so you might look at wallyworld for supplies as well.
