Hooray........roots in 2 days already reaching down in the water

re: Guttamanes First Box Build & Grow Attempt 2014

ROOTS!! :bravo:

Make sure you drop your water level to around 1/2 inch - 1 inch below the netpot now that the roots are out and hanging in the water.

The main problem that I see that will cause you trouble in your grow is that you have nothing separating your rockwool from your netpot. You would need some hydroton or clay in between. This keeps the water from drenching your rockwool 24/7. At this point your rockwool is going to act like a sponge and stay soaked 24/7 and can cause stem rot...

2 days later , looking much better added some tea and upped the nutes and ditched the rock wool. You can see better on the plant on the front right of the group shot where i toppped them and those 2 tops are beginning to take off and most of the yellowing has began to turn green , not sure if that was from the food i added or me stabilizing the ph but its working

re: Guttamanes First Box Build & Grow Attempt 2014

Awesome, But now that the roots are grown through the rock wool and net pot how are you going to add it?
It was fairly easy , Im guessing the way i placed them in the pots and how i cut the rock wool cubes but mos of the roots were under the rock wool and I was able to remove almost off of it from each pot and added some aquarium gravel that i rinsed and let sit in ph water then tossed them on in there. I did this last night and in less than 12 hrs it looks like they grew about an inch. That rock wool was pretty soaked also and i had the water level a good ways away from the bottom of the net pot.

Now for the not so good shots , well i decided to go ahead and just flower my 2 soil plants for 2 reasons , to just be finish with the soil and to test run my flower box and identify any problems prior to putting my more tempermental and sensitive dwc plants in there meanwhile letting my others veg long and and i can continue to top them. But this is there 2nd night in there and I seen this problem after the first night of 12/12 i first assumed it was burning from the lights but the plant next to it looked fine and it only has got up to 86 in the cabinet during the night ( girl turned ac off ) and as you can see the plants are no where near touching the light so any one with some input feel free to chime in. They were fine that day before placed them in there to flower looked pretty good i had been vegging them outside.

re: Guttamanes First Box Build & Grow Attempt 2014

I think that i may have been the foliar spray that i applied about an hour prior to lights on , may have dried up and burnt the leaves

re: Guttamanes First Box Build & Grow Attempt 2014

I dont really understand the point in foliar sprays. I have no experience with it so i just dont know any benefits from it. Every post i see with someone foliar spraying there plants are always burnt a few days after. The water acts like tiny magnifying glasses and the drops of water is what burns the leaves.

86 degrees is not bad and i dont believe it did this to your girl. Looks like it might be possible pH issue or nute burn along with foliar spray? Maybe someone with more experience can give you some input. I cant give you good advice on this issue.

I have never heard of using aquarim rocks in place of hydroton or clay. I hope it works out for you and serves its purpose!

Also what is your pH and PPM of your reservoir for you 4 girls?

re: Guttamanes First Box Build & Grow Attempt 2014

Ph is 5.9-6.0 and I dont have a ppm meter.........im sure they arent as porous as hydroton but they appear to stay pretty moist after a mist or when I would scoop water from res and pour onto the rocks

re: Guttamanes First Box Build & Grow Attempt 2014

Looking much better each morning , roots almost at the bottom of the res and tops are taking off.

re: Guttamanes First Box Build & Grow Attempt 2014

I topped them all , yes the appear to be doing much better I have to adjust the lights every day now , I was getting frustrated trying to prevent root rot and fighting water temps and after alot of reading I decided to add more oxygen rather than fight water temps without a chiller so I added a dual outlet pump to each res and now the water looks like its boiling and the roots are nice and white. I plan on switching them over to flower this weekend they are a few days past 4 weeks now. Having 2 boxes i plan to make some minor mods to my veg box and in about 4 weeks have 4 more seedlings ready to begin veg for 4 weeks when this group is halfway through flower. Hopefully i can harvest 2-4 plants every 4-6 weeks.

re: Guttamanes First Box Build & Grow Attempt 2014

Looking a lot better! Did you top that plant, or did it split naturally?
this pic was taken yesterday and i woke up this am and had to move the lights the plant on the right was damn near touching the cfl

re: Guttamanes First Box Build & Grow Attempt 2014

I love waking up to massive growth spurts like that. It lets you know you're doing something right!

I just added some Bat shit to mine a few days ago and increased the R/H and woke this am to a BOOM in growth aswell. Well lets all say Yeah to good growth.

Yeah

re: Guttamanes First Box Build & Grow Attempt 2014

Camera sucks and its hard to see but they are fairly dense and plenty of growth near the main stems , they were 4 weeks from seed when i flipped the lights so there about 30 days old from seed , also made some minor mods to my flower box I used my old exhaust fan that was really a converted desk fan and used it correctly to push air into the box rather than pull which it did a horrible job of and used an actual exhaust fan , its 120 mm and is rated at 90cfm and it was an instant difference maker , temps dropped to low 70s with lights on and humididty dropped as well and when you open the doors you can feel the air movement. The exhaust fan stays on 24/7 is very quiet and has like 100,000 of run time so why not and the intake fan only come on with lights to help with air movement and keep res temps down while lights are on.
