Indoor 4 x Black Russian - 400W MH/HPS - 1st Indoor Grow

Problem/deficiency or not your bud look fantastic!:thumb:
Ph or nute burn maybe?

ph of solution and run-off is 6.2 ( i hear mixed opinions some say 6 some say 6.5 so i'm going halfway hehe ) what ph do you run ? im still not ruling out nute burn it is a possibility. if it is nute burn and I slow on the nutes will the leaves recover ?

Just a thought don't hold me to this, but your plants are very big and they might just be become root locked in the pots. Your pots look big but that is a monster plant with just as many roots. Like I said just a thought but root lock is a reason I don't grow soil just another thing to worry about. Nice bud porn man I wanna see those colas swell!

Interesting concept ! that would explain why the small plant has none of those issues. the pots are not that big. Smaller than what is recommend I believe. Do you have additional info on root lock ?

NOOO not good, those may not be springtails!!! i just had those kinds of bugs in my deep water culture resevoir that fell from my mesh pot they were infecting my roots. thier little off-whitish colored worms. if you have worm looking bugs and not bugs with legs and big antenas then those are root aphids and they SUCK ASS. theres a solution but arent you pretty close to harvest?

it's hard to see because they are very very small like 2mm. I think they have antennas hard to tell. I should be getting my microscope soon and I will look once I receive it and keep you up to date.

What convinced me that that they are springtails is they jump about half an inch high. The are also only visible when I water that's when they make it to the surface. Also they seem to be common with people that are using mollasses like I am.

I was once told to make a solution of tobacco and water and spray it on the plants, that the nicotine in the tobacco can kill most bugs. Just a thought. If they are in the dirt then I don't know what to do.

Ya they are only in the dirt, the plant itself is in no way affected. The peroxide treatment does not seem to be working...

you are only in day 38 or the 6th week of flowering and i have never heard of a plant being ready in that amount of time. The bud size will double in the last 2 weeks of flowering. If I were you I would go back to grow shop and look for and organic pesticide(thats safe for plants) and use it soon so you can have plenty of time to flush it out. I don't like bugs of any kind around my grow except for ladybugs. The reason I say this is because your plants still have at least a month. If the bugs a stunting their growth I would want to kill them with time for the plant to bounce back. Just a suggestion.

How strong did you make the peroxide solution?

5ml per liter

I plan on going to the grow shop this week need to get more ONA to remove the smell my device needs more and more ONA to keep up. I will see if they have something I can use to get rid of bugs. From what I read they are harmless and actually somewhat good for the plants.. but same here not a fan of having bugs in my plants and house and there is a considerable amount of them.

I've enlisted some help ! received them both yesterday. They should be able to assist me and help me out

Helper #1: literature

photo_1139.JPG

From reading reviews this seems to be the benchmark for grow books. Started reading and seems very detailed and very interesting. I'm sure I'll learn a lot.

Helper #2 : microscope

yooo this thing is really cool and work really well for ~20$ !! I checked out the trichromes on the small plant (the one that looks more mature with orange pistils) and they are not amber at all. some are clear and I believe some are opaque/milky.

I also looked at the other plants and they are 100% clear. It's soo cool to see those up close !! Next I want to look at the pistils and also at the insect try to get some more info on that.

Thanks vicb13 for recommending one of those microscope. I had never heard or seen those hand held microscope before.

2 days ago I chopped a small bud from the small plant and put it on top of my balast. Yesterday evening it was dry... The bud was not very compact but tasted pretty good for being quick dried and not cured. Also the high was nice. Seems to be pretty potent already :D !!

No problem bro you got the exact scope I have lol I like to use it on weed that I buy from dealers to check those nugs out too

You can transplant them if you really think it is root lock. It would be really good for them if root lock is what the problem is.

after talking some more with the hydro shop owner looks like my problem is that when I was feeding I was feeding a little too much but I was not feeding often enough so they are little deficient in late flowering but when i feed them they were in shock a little and are know showing some burn and some minor deficiencies.. again i'm not a pro but this seems to make sense. My pots are small and i'm sure it would help but that might not be the issue. Next time though I am definitely using bigger pots !

nice scope..were you able to see what kind of bugs those were? i hope everythings doing good on your end

ive been looking into getting a grow book. ive heard of that one more than a few times. lookiong forward to seeing some of the things you learn out on your grow man:thumb:

The book is pretty good so far, the only thing i'm a little disappointed about is the section on deficiencies I was hoping for more detailed info and pictures. Also the section Ph is very basic it just mentions adjust ph between 6-8.. but ya I am enjoying learning about the plant history, original strains and plant genetics

Alright so the bugs. I Isolated a few bugs in a vial of water, added some lysol. It killed them almost instantly. I then took a black dish and drop the water and the bug on the dish to get some contrast (the bugs are white). I took out my microscope and took a look at the insect. They match 100% the description of a springtail. They have antennas but most importantly they have this little extension on their tail that folds and acts like a spring. So I have bugs but at least they are not harmful. I have about 3 weeks left on the bigger plants so I will keep feeding a mild solution of peroxide but I will not take drastic action to eradicate them. The hydro shop guy gave me the same advice.

I wish i could add pictures of this ...

My smaller plant is getting mature, I looked at the trichromes today and they are starting to turn amber (just a small percentage). again so so cool looking at the trichromes with a microscope. I have been feeding her only water for about a week a now , I will harvest her most likely next week. Even though I have not fed her for about a week she is showing no sign of deficiencies and looks very healthy. Although the buds are small compared to the other plants.

Update day 43 of flowering (12/12)

Looks like things are back on tracks, problems are not worsening. One plant has suffered a little damage, lost a few leaves (only 2-3) and has more yellowing than the others but problem is stable and is not spreading anymore. I have eased up on the nutes a little. All other plants are in pretty good shape. I have trimmed all the lower popcorn bud to release energy for the upper buds.

All 3 big plants are starting to show some orange pistils. They are getting pretty sticky.

and oh god do they smell !!!! my odour eliminating device is not cutting it no more not at all. Next time around carbon filter will be mandatory.

The small plant is staring to show sign of deficiencies since it hasn't been fed nutes in over a week. Today I flushed her. Ran water through excessively. The water had a lot of colour to it kinda orange. I will harvest her most likely at the end of this week. The buds have not grown that much but the calyx have swelled up in the past 3-4 days. I smoke some of her this weekend ITS GOOOD !! :yummy:

Allright so here are some pics of the one I will harvest at the end of this week.

Next is the one that suffered a little more damage than the others. Like I said it is now recovering and was thirsty before the pics leaves were just starting to droop a little.

And here is a bouquet of flowers I gave my gf has a joke. They have actually been in there for over 2 weeks and have not wilted one bit. I have them in a solution of water , B1 & Kelp. They are not growing roots but are actually budding a little. I am kinda of amazed by that.

feel free to pitch in with ideas and comments ! :thanks:

Update day 50 of flowering (12/12)

Today was harvest day for the small plant. I flushed the plant twice over the last week. She was starting to show signs of deficiencies but no yellowing of the leaves more spotting of all leaves. I have trimmed her . cut her at the base, suspended her on a tripod then covered the tripod with a plastic bag and added a small fan. The reason I am adding a bag is because there is light in the room and I read they must be in the dark and the light will degrade the THC.

The temps of the room is about 70-75 , RH is around 50-60.

I Need you feedback on this one...

Is this a good idea, the tripod and the plastic bag and fan ????? Will the fan dry the food to quickly ? This is the first time I hang and dry weed just want to make sure this a a decent set up. The rest of the plants will be cut and hanged in the closet so this setup is only for this plant that was harvested earlier than the others.

As for the rest they are looking good ! a little yellowing going on the bottom leaves, some leaves are a little damaged but overall they are in good shape. I have feed all 3 remaining plants today but it's the last time I feed them. I am staring the 2 weeks of only water. Pistils are starting to turn orange on the lower portion of the plant ~ 30%. I am now on the final stretch with all remaining plants.

Anything I omitted to do or that I should do at this point ??

Here are the pics !

So Again I would really like some advice and comments on my drying set up.... so any help appreciated

9 days into flushing the plants with water only. The are maturing and I spotted a few amber trichromes on one of the plants. depending on the trichromes I might harvest this weekend. The are looking good , some leaves are yellowing with purple stems due to the lack of nutes. Since I started flushing the seem to smell better, they smell sweet !

The first plant I cut down is now dry and manicured. I did not get much from that small plant but the bud is decent. I have 16g dry of nice bud and 15 g of popcorn bud not worth trimming and trimmings. The buds are not super dense and a little airy but this plant was further away from the light and I think I cut it down a little early.

I will be using the popcorn buds and trimming to make some Ice Hash later on once I have the trimmings from all the plants. The dried bud is now in mason jars to cure. It already smoked real well without the cure ! it has a sweet taste to it, very smooth.

Harvest for plant #2 WOoohoo

I decided to pull her today after seeing just a few thrichromes that turned amber.

I would say maybe 5-10 percent of trichromes were amber.

This is what I was looking for with this one.

MY plan is to have something like this

Plant 1 : 0 amber (acheived)
Plant 2 : 10% amber (acheived)
Plant 3 : 35% amber
Plant 4 : 50% + amber

All remaining plants are now starting to show lots of yellowing and some necrosis on the fan leaves.

Here are some pics for harvest # 2

first few pics of the plants before cutting it down

This pic is after trimming the big fan leaves.

2 plants to go I plan on harvesting the rest sometime this week hopefully !

Plants look great was wondering what size pots are you using and were the two you've picked root bound ?

I'm not sure about the exact size of the pots but it's around 2 gallon. I did not inspect the first one, but I think the one I just cut was rootbound. Next time around I am using bigger pots 3+ gallons.

Here's a pic of the rootmass out of the pot and flipped upside down . Is that rootbound ? looks like it to me ... but i'm a rookie...

Chop Chop ! all plants are cut. I cut the last two 3 days ago. Its looking good :) !

FInal results are something like this

Plant 1 : 0 amber
Plant 2 : 10% amber
Plant 3 : 20% amber
Plant 4 : ~25 % amber

I also manicured and weighed the 2 second plant i cut. Im happy with the results.... drumroll ...

50G dried

almost 2 ounce.

I find the bud a little too dry though it's very brittle. I will add a little moisture in the curing process. The buds are very crystallized but again not that compact. But some of them look real good :D
