Martok's First Grow: 30 Mystery Seeds Grow Journal, Fall 2020

oh shit. lol, greetings from van bc. yes, even seedlings count as plants, but you can grow 4 in flower. seedlings aren't flowers stage yet, but double check the rules. i don't want to miss inform you
Just checked for shits and giggles.
Do non-medical cannabis clone plants count toward the plant total?
Yes. Any clones produced are included in the four plant limit.
Almost a reason to move back to California lol

I pulled the trigger on a Mars ts3000. Having a little buyers remorse thinking I'm gonna wish I spent more and got two smaller ones. Either way... My plants will appreciate new light and I'm in. I'll cross bridges as they come. This comment and other have all help guide me in making a tough decision. I could have spent more. I could have spent less. I think I chose something in the middle. I'm curious 013. What size space do you have those sp250's in? light still hasn't shipped which means I can still change my order lol.
And congrats! I think you’ll be happy, especially considering electric costs and heat, and when you get your buds you’ll be thrilled.

Thanks Buddy, I think I will.. I was taunted with this decision. I know for a little over a $100 (buying another light) like I have would have probably been fine. I have learned a lot about lights. Current light draws 185w. Two lights would draw 370w assuming there telling truth about actual watt draw. Light draw on new light is 450w. Not a big difference really. As you can see I have may have really over thought all this... lol . I just hope light spectrum and 80 more watts drawn will make the difference. I'll be watching your grow in that 4X4 very closely .

Almost 5 full weeks in flowering now, growing more concerned with leaf issues. The yellowing and even purple a couple leaves....starting to worry about my roots. In a perfect world I would have up-potted these before flipping or once I knew the males were out....hoping they hold on a few more weeks.

The ones in 5 gal are 2 weeks into flowering now, so far so good. They got water and nutrients and cal-mag last night. The Auto is getting closer.

How long did you Veg those in you 4X4. They look very similar to mine. Two week behind you, and waiting for light to arrive.

About 7 weeks! They were a little slow though in the beginning. I put them in too big of pots too fast probably, and they didn't get a second light until mid-Week 2, I think. The biggest one in particular was really frustrating, but once some cal-mag got added to my water, it seemed to really took off.

I't was about 8 weeks from seeds. I went straight from peat pod to 4' peat pot thinking I could just plant entire plant wondering why no body else was. Did a little research only to discover that it was a bad idea. Then up potted to 5g after only a 2 or 3 weeks if i'm remembering :bongrip: . After reading I will defiantly up pot to 2g and then 5g for flower next time.

Hey PD, apologies for delay. They are in a 12 X 12 but I don‘t need to fill that space up with lights or plants. It would be nice but that’s a couple of grand extra to outfit the whole room.

I understand but that was my point - you don’t need a tent for the veg stuff just a small shelf and light, but I get happy wife - happy life.... is that even possible? I‘m kidding!!! All right now...

 I'm on my 4th, so Number 4 has defiantly made my life happy. Like a grow, If you don't get it right the first time there's still time to do it right!!

Welp we are not doing so hot. We pulled them all out today and gave them a flush with 6.5 pH but we’re really flying blind at this point. Have them sitting on some chicken wire now. I’m feeling like the only possibilities left are some sort of root rot or lockout? Could H202 help get me to the finish line? Someone suggested flipping back to 18, possibly uppotting. We’re 2 days into Week 6 now of flowering.

Also dealing with pretty low humidity lately. Fighting to keep it above 30 constantly by spraying down the walls from time to time to get it back up to 40% at least.
(This is just the 3x3 tent, I’ll update the 4x4 tomorrow)

Don’t flush or h202 - don’t change a thing for a minute. Ok leaves turning colors is just her stealing nutes from the fan leaves, don’t pluck them let her suck them dry. Ok low humidity is not bad in later flower it’s desirable, think I would stop spraying water tho - risk for pm or bud rot. Don’t hump with light hours, you jump back up to 18 theres risk she will get pissed and hermie. Instead of flush prob needs feeding, she’s in final sprint and can’t run on empty. Bro - she looks good, stay steady on her! No need to let her dry out either, soil can stay moist keep her feed going. Maybe do feed water feed water, but she needs more food than flushing.

Copy that! We’ll let em chill. We’ll drag these plants to glory whether they want to or not think 3-4 more weeks maybe more for some.

on a separate note, the leaves have just started turning on my auto, getting closer to harvest. Heard about keeping them in the dark for a couple days, any thoughts? Stick to 18 until it’s ready. Been flushing for about a week now, maybe less.

Emilya does the dark cycle too can’t remember think she does 48 hours dark but she’s also into putting a large wood screw in the trunk. You could search in her signature links

I‘m not a fan of flushing soil, I’m on board with bud washing but can’t bring myself to flush my dirt, now if I had spilled a whole bottle of nutes by accident or something I might consider it. But to each their own.

not telling you what to do - you are sharp gardener I’ve already seen that. But what crops are flushed? None except hydro or aquaponics. How do you flush 600 acres of corn or soy? Cant be done. Ask at the farmers market about flushing even the organic food growers never heard of it, unless they are 420 friendly. It’s mostly a hydro technique that got carried over to soil. You can’t flush nutes out of your buds, you can’t change taste. Plant takes up what it takes up, washing the dirt or the roots can’t undo what the plant soaked in or grew in. Plus there’s the part about depleting resources while she’s trying to build those fat juicy nugs.

Yes, flushing can help clear the soil if you are having build up of chemical salts and some nute company’s like FF recommend it. Or like flushing when you switch from veg nutes to flower nutes thats reasonable. So guess it depends on why you are flushing. But if you do flush you need to go right back to feeding....that’s my 2 cents!

but as I said before you’ve got good instincts!

Ah okay interesting! I have similar feelings but have been scared to it from talk of the harsh nutrient taste from not doing it. You haven’t had an issue with that? Some of the articles make it sound like it’s smoking nuclear fallout lol

taste has been my only reasoning behind it, but being my first grow I would have no honest idea what to compare my buds too when they’re done.

Bud washing is way to go but let me pull an article. InTheShed no flush it says flushed and unflushed buds lab tested the same. If there’s no benefit and it’s a pain in the ass to do it - then why do it?

bud washing cause once you see the nasty water - you will say heck yes but bad taste is from poor cure & dry. Bud wash plus low and slow fridge curing - you will be so proud of your buds you will be showing ‘em to the fuzz trying to get 50 to taste them.

I’m soil grower my buds taste right. Not to be nasty but theres an old bit about a grown woman smells like fish, and a young thing smells like creek water.... well my bud smells like Cinderellas vag before she ever started dating.... clean, alive, refreshing, powerful, none of that old schwag shit

Harvest prep curing can’t remember if I dropped this before, low & slow, bud washing etc.

for harvest need one of these - loupe, mini microscope or phone app called magnifyer to see trichs.
for jars need mini hygrometers to go inside - it’s cheap insurance, paper bags for low & slow, jars + lids or for really big quantities use turkey bags and gamma bucket lids, many get bovedas 62% rh

alrighty. 6 full weeks in flowering down. On to week 7. Water and Nutrients today, we’re hoping we make it to the finish line. Already planning next grow and ways to improve. There’s at least a dozen things I’d do differently next time, and if I can get good seeds I’ll be glad I got my feet wet with some bag seeds.

the buds for the most part look really great, putting on density and some are farther along than others. Only one plant in the corner seems to have sugar leaves a little down, the rest are still pointed up and seem okay. One bud‘s leaves is turning purple, not sure if it’s supposed to or if this is a bad sign.

There’s definitely a good funky smell when I walk into the room. This tent doesn’t have a filter yet, but the smell seems contained to the room which is fine.

I harvested my auto, and trimmed, I’ll put pics and more details next post!

Harvested the little auto, got my feet wet with trimming, an interesting experience definitely. I don’t think I got too carried away but a couple buds got cut off. Those are on a screen nearby.

I have every intention of using the slow curing method. I still need some more time to get the logistics figured out here at home. This plant will have to get the traditional method for now.

It’s been about 36 hours since drying began, pretty steady at 47-50%, lots of airflow.
