Measure To Legalize Pot Moves Forward

Although the allowance of commercial growing makes me worry that the ballot will be disregarded, it is the right thing that should be done.
With very little research anyone can learn that our laws that also make growing industrial Hemp illegal are ridiculous. Both industrial and recreational hemp should be allowed to be grown by anyone, whether you're a commercial business or a private user - its a plant of this earth and no one should be prohibited from growing the earth. Lets stop pushing the market of this crop into the black. Statistics show that where marijuana is legal, user rates especially minor use are not higher, or are even lower like in amsterdam... so if the market of recreational marijuana does not increase (alcohol drinking rates where also higher during the alcohol prohibtion) then creating a legal market has to mean removing most of the clientele of the black market. Sure neighboring states would worry it might be easy to cross state boundries... but this plant should be legal there too..
There is no even government reason why industrial hemp was ever made illegal but it could save the world. Hemp for victory is a fda video from 1942 about how great hemp is and how to grow and harvest it.

It is lunacy to imprison anyone simply for possessing a fruit of the earth. We were born from the resources of this planet, which also offers up Cannabis, and to prohibit it is due to arrogance, ignorance, and lots of greed.

I could not agree more, well said

I have to agree that decriminalization is the way to go. Take Ohio for instance, they have decriminalized possession of up to 8 ounces plus however many plants. Complete decriminalization would be the thing to do. My main beef with the bill though is the inclusion of commercial growers, while not creating safeguards against mass production and importation into other states. Simply put, pot needs to first be decriminalized and the medical laws need to be further worked out. We have to remember that medical pot has been legal since 1996 and the process has yet to be worked out. In reality, i can't see how this bill will ever be put through. As it stands, I would not vote to pass it.

MOPPS: I have to disagree. It is illegal to grow pot in Mexico. If pot was legalized those Mexican growers would simply move into cali and grow...cali is not the only place Mexican pot is sold. I grew up in Kentucky, and one of my close friends, his uncle lived in Texas, and would make monthly trips to Kentucky bringing pounds of Mexican pot each trip.

Another thing, in reality the only change i see that needs to be made is that medical laws need to be slightly loosened...i mean 6 plants in kinda ridiculous. 24 plants would seem to be a better fit...if not 99, ha.

I mean I don't want my daughter exposed at every convience store on her way home to joints or worse hash oil.

But it is ok with you that she be exposed to alcohol at these same convenience stores on her way home? I'm sure by now you know witch is worse........come on man you cant be serious.

People fail to see how corrupt the US gov is. I think decriminalization is a long shot, this bill, WAYYYY longer. :bong:

thank you. ;) my words exactly

:thedoubletake:The Question I can,t for the life of me understand. WHY i'm able to set up complete brewery in my house legally...But can not grow a cannabis plant legally??!!:hmmmm::goof: Makes ZERO cents!! WTF!!

us voting them into office? seriously what choice do we have other than to not vote, and if we didn't would we really have a right to complain?:peace:

Instead of this news report being called "measure" can you tell what the measure on the ballot will really be called? Or do you have to have signatures first, then they give you a measure like vote on MJ-A or MJ-2010

Let me know? If you have the name already, I think when reporting this to us in the MJ News, it should always be referred (no pun intended...lol "refer") it should be referred by the name of the measure.

I think this way the measure name will sink in the minds of the many, instead of a long title called "Measure To Legalize Pot" I mean this as a positive criticism, not meant as negative.

What do you think or feel??? Let me know?
Thanks

The articles you see in our news aren't written by staff here but mostly by journalists working at newspapers. They are the ones who pick the article titles. We try to leave these articles intact. One reason is out of respect for the author (even when we might not agree), its their work we are using. Hopefully if there are unanswered questions or mistakes one of our informed members or staff will jump in. It almost never fails. I realize this was positive feed back, no problem there

{Each time, and I cannot see not receiving twice the signatures needed, we make a step like this, each state, with the economy in need of serious repair, will see income generation.}

Yes, we have persevered and right will certainly rule out in the end but IMO as well as others, the reality of the state of California's willingness to now come to the table is primarily due to the fact the state is broke (they were writing IOU's in June) and they now know the Marijuana Tax Initiative deal, in what ever form, is pretty much their last ticket on the fast train to financial fixville. By initially passing the Med Tax in Oakland, our powers that think they be have gotten a small glimpse of the possible state wide revenues and I believe it's beyond their wildest hopes n dreams. San Diego officials, on the other hand, have been too long in the sun, too long in the wind. I think they need to be taken back to the dirty little sailor town they once used to be. Get back in touch with their roots, so to speak.

Our last great squandered robbery happened when the state of California stepped in after seeing the Indian Gaming Casinos making millions and the powerful & always hungry California Grizzly Bear rose up and roared, "We'll be having some of that". Well, that money is gone now, no more cash cows except....Now I dont know if California will goes as far as legalizing marijuana as a recreational drug any time soon but i do believe we will have an across the board state taxation program for coops/dispensaries in place by 2010. The thinking just may be, "lets walk before we run and after that we can all get high and stumble". We'll see.

In June, after voters denied borrowing on all fronts (including tapping the State Lottery) to help with our bulging deficit, our colorful Gov wisely said with a half way grin, "We should revisit the Marijuana Med Tax thing. Those guys are making more than the casinos" (OK, he didnt say it quite like that, but robbing the white man takes a little more finesse) Our state gets back in the black, the Gov gets to leave at the end of his term as somewhat of a hero, and the marijuana med patients can rest a little more easy...

For us of who live in good 'ol sunny California, our deficit is a shame, an embarrassment and causes us great anger at the blatant mismanagement job our elected officials have done on our behalf. However, out of the ashes the Phoenix shall surely rise, in the form of a little green leaf. I find comfort in the irony...:peace: peace n good luck...MF
