My 1st Grow - Suggestions Welcome

4 White Widow plants and 1 Xtreme Haze plant. They have had about 8 weeks of Vegetation period and now in the 1st week of Flowering. What you guys think? They all look like healthy plants to me but I am a newbie so I could be wrong.

Any Suggestions?
- Should I add more lights? (Is the 2 lights above each plant enough? Any Benefit from adding Side Lights?)
- Are the Pots big enough? (I already transplanted 3 times)

Welcome learntogroww, nice looking plants :)

What size lights are you using? IMO you will need more light for 5 plants as cfl's don't penetrate much below the canopy,

What size pots are you using?

Temps in grow room?

Soil ph?

What nutes are you feeding them ?

I'm a newbie myself but hopefully someone with more knowledge will chip in :)

If there is usually something significantly wrong, the problem will make itself noticeable. Your plants look 100% healthy to me.

Should I add more lights? (Is the 2 lights above each plant enough? Any Benefit from adding Side Lights?)

Lighting is a big subject. The stronger the light, the more energy a plant gets. red or warm lights additionally promote more stretching, where blue or white cool lights additionally promote more leafy and short internode bushy plants. The closer a plant is to enough light, the less it stretches vs the farther a plant is from light, it will try to stretch since it wants more light. Side lighting would make your plants use more of its energy to grow wider, so you would get a little less tall, and wider plants with more branching. Your plants look like they could use more lighting (this is if you want them to be bushier) as they seem to want to stretch towards those cfls. In my own personal opinion I would just use those cfls for early small plants and if you want to use fluorescent lighting get something like a t5 fluorescent fixture. This way you got even lighting and with fluorescent you can put them super close to your plants because they dont emit much heat. Or just adding more of those cfls and adding maybe a couple on the sides might give you just as good results. either way, lighting is pretty much personal preference. There are metal halides, high pressure sodiums, cfls, fluorescents, LED lights, THE SUN, and probably other efficient good ways of lighting your plants that I cant even think of right now.

Are the Pots big enough? (I already transplanted 3 times)

personally I start with plastic cups, and use those for a couple weeks, then I check my cups and pull the root soil mass out of the cup to check whether it is root filled enough to transplant. then from there I'd go to a 1 gallon container then after that 3-5 gallon depending on how long you are growing for. Per month of plant life = per gallon of container. So a plant that would take 3 total months would like at least a 3 gallon pot or container. This is what I go by.

Thank you so much for your reply I will try my best to answer your questions below.

What size lights are you using? IMO you will need more light for 5 plants as cfl's don't penetrate much below the canopy. I am using 100W CFL Lights which give out 1,000 Lumens. I have 10 total bulbs with 2 above each plant giving a total of 10,000 Lumens for the tent, the ten is a 4x4 size.

What size pots are you using? I don't know, lol. I didn't buy them just re-used ones I had from other plants in the house :) When I compare them to what I have seen in stores I would say they are around 3-4 Gallon. I am actually going to measure them and figure out how big they are ;)

Temps in grow room? 75-85f

Soil ph? Have never checked, but I have only used soil with zero additives and only Distilled Water.

What nutes are you feeding them ? I am feeding them Fox Farms Nutes.

no problem. people help me a lot since i started so i feel like i should give back and help others, where i know enough to help :)

are you using nutrients? if you are using liquid nutes you should probably make the investment to get a ph meter. most all dirt or potting soil mixes will come pre pH balanced to some close extent of what you want, but the moment you start adding nutrients, especially liquid nutrients, you don't know what ph you are adding to your soil. i would guess ur ph is in a good range since your plants look happy, but for future grows, its obviously safe to be able to control an important variable like pH so you can always ensure it is always where it needs to be.

I will monitor PH levels on my next batch, thanks :)

Hi learntogroww, thank you for the reply to my questions :)

Tmcraig82 made a good point about ph as it can be a pain in the arse if it's wrong, as I'm experiencing at the moment on my 1x unknown showing some signs of ca/mg deficiency.

I personally would love to try fox farm nutes in my next grow but they are expensive in my part of the world.

Looks like your on the right track and can't wait to see some bud porn :thumb:
