Soil PH testing

I don't normally test my soil ph, but I'm starting a different grow and wanted to try it out. The process seems simple.... dump water in, test water out.

The problem comes in understanding the results. Here's what I did....

I added PH6 water to the bucket... tested water after it filtered thru the soil. PH was 6.1

I mulled it about for a bit, and decided I wanted to raise the PH, so I added some tap water of PH9. I tested the output and it showed a PH of 6.2

I'm honestly just not sure what to make of this. Anyone have experience in this?

Cheers

Really, what I look for is what the ph of the solution you add is before you add it which should be 6.5, and then I test what the runoff is of the solution when it comes through, which should be around 5.7 - 6.0. That's what's most important.
