Tillys First Grow: Peanut Butter Breath, 2020

Since confirming my front runner was a male I’ve since pulled it and now have what I believe will be a female (pre flowers seem much more pointes than the last one) I’m working on LST and defoliation to allow more light to the colas... my question is should I remove the top 2 fan leaves (the biggest) from where I topped. I’m concerned that it will weaken the structural integrity of the plant where I am forcing the main 2 cold in opposite directions.

Some people experience a split below the topping point. It’s usually no big deal - you just tape it up and support the two stems.

I don’t like to remove leaves until the plant is done with them. Can you tuck them a little to uncover lower growth?

I sadly don’t have the knowledge yet to advise you, but what I can say is they do look super healthy!
:)

I tried tucking but it kept undoing itself ... I think I found a compromise by tying the fan leaves lightly to my LST rig. They were really crowding things near the top being so horizontal. Hopefully that helps, thanks again Felipe!

Est. Day 36-42
Hey friends, here’s a bit of an update

I recently purchased a digital microscope. I believe I was able to identify 2 more males (boo) and 1 female, though I’m going to wait a couple more days on the suspected males just to be sure.i have to use the stand next time to get clearer pics it’s hard to keep a steady hand and take a pic.

I transplanted the smaller female into its final 3 gallon smart pot. I planted it near one edge of the pot so I could resume my LST and stretch the plant across the pot. I planted the larger girl more in the middle which was a lesson learned.

ive developed a good LST system with some of the tips in these forums. I have connected zip ties together around the smart pot about half way down and tightened it evenly. From there I’m using the soft ties to create an s hook. I’ve looped one end onto the node then I’m using twist tie to anchor down to the zip ties.

I’m going to give it another 10-14 days to let the smaller plant catch up then I’m going to flip them. Question*** should I be using grow big still or should I switch to tiger bloom ?

Here’s another weird thing ... the larger girl I still haven’t seen a definite hair yet, though the shape looks female... yet the smaller younger plant has this little beauty (see pic).Strange

I also gave them a feeding today, Sunday was the last day they were watered prior to today.

mad always thanks for the read and your thoughts

Hey they say there is no such thing as a stupid question, with a digital microscope do you still have to do the squinty eye focus thing when looking at it, or is it like a magnifier on a phone, where you get instant focus?

OMG so LST I tried to reinvent the wheel using D shackles and padlocks to like weigh them down. All I did was bruise them. I too learned some great tips here. I’m using twist pipe cleaners and it is so much better and less damaging.

Your plants look great :)

Sorry I can’t help you with your question. I feel sure help will come :)

haha good question, there’s probably
Some eye squints and Michael Jordan tongues happening haha... it does autofocus but not as well as it could.

Keep using Grow Big through most of stretch. The plants still need N. FF should have a feed schedule.

Not really an update, just thought the girl was looking extra sexy this afternoon. It seems like she is drinking up water waay faster this last week. She was looking sad 2 days after my last water and before that I was usually going 4-6 days depending on the weight. I almost didnt water it because it seemed like a trap lol. I guess thats a sign that the root system is solid. After watering she perked right back up. Im planning on flipping to 12/12 this Sunday which will, mark roughly 8 weeks since she popped ... my plan was to have 2 plants in this bucket for flower but I think Im going to have to just do the one due to how bushy shes getting and move the smaller one into one of my 5 gallon buckets.

ScrOg question ... now my setup is relatively unique with my space tote and Im not sure if this is even needed. I got bored one night had an idea and went with it. So attached is my end result ( have to fix the one end where its not tight ).

It looks like it would work fabulously and I was about to put it on before flipping to 12/12 tomorrow then a thought occurred to me. I normally lift the pots out of the bucket to water them. That wont work if I move forward with this ScrOg. So I guess my question is, has anyone done a scrog in a space bucket, did it help and if so how did you water it!?

Thanks friends.

Week 1 of flower is complete! Wow this thing is on steroids. Its growing very big and pushing against all sides of my space tote. Currently about 7-8 inches off the tops of the light, I have a spacer prepped and likely will need to install it in the next day or two. Ive been watering mostly every 2-3 days, its been guzzling up water. Did a little bit of defoliation on lower leaves. Starting to see quite a few pistils all over the plant.

**Week 2 Flower update**

Nothing too crazy to report, other than this plant is getting massive! Ive got 10 solid colas across the canopy of 1 plant, Im glad I decided against 2 plants in this tote as originally planned. The canopy isn't perfectly flat as my scrog didn't work out (poor watering planning) but each cola seems to have its own space/light access.

The buds are starting to look really nice and Im excited to see more development over week 3. Ive been feeding with both Tiger Bloom and Grow Big over the last week, its stretched to about 6-7" off the light so it was time to add the spacer. Now the canopy is about 15" from the light. Downside to the spacer is it has created some light gaps, Im pondering some form of duct tape type flap, but may just keep it simple and tape the crap out of it. TBD Im not too worried about light penetration during dark hours, when I peak through the vent at night its still very dark inside.

As much as Ive enjoyed this spacebucket grow, Im learning that watering is a pain in the ass, I tried a couple things that didnt work out. In the end I decided to invest in my next setup... 2 3x3 tents that will be veg / flower (stay tuned for my next journal). Im going to use the buckets to grow peppers and tomatoes etc throughout the winter.

Any thoughts or suggestions for things to be on the lookout for at this stage would be appreciated! Oh humidity currently sitting at 45% and 24.3 degrees celsius.

**Week 3 Flower Update**

Well this was the week that I broke down and migrated from my space bucket/tote to a full on tent. The tent is 35x35x70. I have a Mars Hydro TS 1000W light and a Visosun 190 cfm fan and carbon filter. I also have a couple clamp fans to move the air around.

So far my struggle has been RH this week. I have a feeling that since the tent is in my basement the RH is higher and Im struggling to get it under control. I just ordered a small dehumidifier that I hope will solve it. Right now the RH is hovering around the 52-62 range which I know is not good for flower.

Regardless the plant seems to be thriving for now. Im hoping it can take a couple more days and that the dehumidifier solves the problem. Any other tips in the meantime Id appreciate your ideas!

** Week 4 Flower Update **

Pretty smooth sailing this week but there is one surprise Im curious to see if anyone has seen this before stay tuned to the end...just been watching her get thicker and thicker. I noticed a very small bit of the tips burnt guessing I was a bit heavy on the Tigerbloom...the plant doesnt seem overly bothered by it though. Going to half dose next feeding.

Busted out the digital scope again for a look at the trichomes. So much crystal buildup already.

Okay surprise abnormality...I was taking a look at some lower buds and then I noticed something odd at the base of a fan leaf...pistils... bud growing right at the base of fan leaf where it meets the stem...so odd... has anyone ever seen this happen before?
