TMV and smoking

Can cannabis plants get TMV from smoking or handling tobacco around them?
I thought the answer was no, but I’m not 100% sure. At any rate I’ve smoked around them plenty and never had issues.
A grow buddy used to tell me not to, because of TMV risk. From what I read online at the time though- it seemed like it was just a myth and he was wrong.
