What Best Lighting For Seedlings?

Basically Just Wondering Whats The Best Lighting For Seedlings?
Would It Harm Them If They Was Under a 600w HID Lighting System?
Just Need Help Before They Sprout

CFL's are the most used and accepted form of lighting for seedlings. Yes, an 600w HID at full strength will burn a seedling to dust. If you have a dimmable ballast, you can dial down to 50% and put it about 2 feet away and you should be okay.

That would still be 300w HID.

Yep, and at 2 feet away the seedlings should be just fine. CFL's are preferred, but if HID is all you got, that's better than nothin

I always put seedlings on the windowsill for the first week or so, until they're strong enough to handle the HID. They respond well to the direct sunlight.

I recommend a 2ft, two bulb, T5 setup.

im with JJ Bones and UltraDan. I started with a 600w HPS, fried em! Bought the 2ft 2 bulb T5 setup....AMAZING!

Imo the best lighting for seedlings are CFL's. They're cheap, small, low heat, gives off enough light for seedlings without burning them (unless it touches the plant hehe) and very mobile so you can adjust where to put it in your room. Can't really beat that. But they CAN be started under a 600W HID, my current grow is proof of that, click in my signature to see. They are roughly 2.5 feet from the light in my case, its a 600W MH
