Darcy’s First Grow: Cali OG Kush x Haze

Hello friends. This is my first go at growing my own plants. Id like to have a good first year of trial and error really. I’m starting 4 plants indoors for now and moving to outdoor pots when the weather allows (assuming mid May) I’d like to see what works and what doesn’t. Our space doesn’t allow for an elaborate indoor setup so pots in the garden will do this year. Any advice or corrections are greatly appreciated along the way. I’m somewhat familiar with growing techniques and basic biology, also being an arborist I have a good understanding how plants and trees work (I know Cannabis is not the same as these) but no the less I’m here to learn! I’m 10 days in now. Unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures of the germination or sprouting but I’ll keep up from now on.

Cal OG kush x haze 3 plants
Early Miss (autoflower) 1 plant

Germinated on March 19
Using spring water ph6.7 for now
Rain barrel is being installed for transition to outside
Seedling heat mat under

Planted into coco coir March 21
Taproots approaching 2cm
Used sterile tweezers in the dark
Seedling heat may still under

Plants emerged from the soil March 23 (all four)
Plants are in a solo cup sized pot. I used pro mix organic soil to fill around the coco coir pucks
Plants are currently beside the window awaiting the arrival of the light

March 25 all have dropped the seed casing. Cotyledons have opened fully. Seedlings are about 4cm tall. Leaning towards window. Keeping the coir moist

March 26 LED arrived. 50watt full spectrum grow light.
Plants are about 5-6cm tall
Light is set appropriately 14 inches from seedlings on 18/6 cycle

March 27 leaves growing slowly
Watered

March 29 about 6-7cm tall
Watered

March 31 second set of leaves visible
More so on the early Miss

April 1 tops are bit heavy and leaning. I built two small supports from scewers to hold up two of the Cali

April 2 new leaves are very visible and can tell they will be 3 fingered.
Early Miss still growing faster
Watered (changed my watering method after reading stuff on here!)

April 4 growth is slow but steady.
About 7-8cm tall
I feel like I’m getting to eager. I almost think they should be growing faster? I guess this is first time and in soil.. hah

DAY 12

So the seedlings are all looking great (I think lol)
I was able to remove the wooden supports as the stems are becoming stronger.

Got the fan going this morning and the little ones are dancing around now

Also I ordered some Reefertilizer online yesterday. It’s a two part kit. One for Grow and the other for Bloom. Did some reading and I hope it works as well as they claim. It’s a Canadian based company so that kind of got me. Does anyone have any experience with Reefertilizer?

DAY 16

So after putting the fan on the little ones four days ago I have definitely noticed the stems are becoming stronger. None of the plants require support anymore and all are starting to look thicker.
I have also been gently bending the stems back and for to try and strengthen
Today is partly sunny and cloudy so I’ve let the girls sit on the window sill. I feel like that’s still better than the 50w LED I have. I ordered a 150 Cob led so hopefully that comes tomorrow.
Again I’m only really starting these guys inside and then moving to outdoor pots. I thought I could get a jump on the nice weather and have some healthy, strong plants to stick outside come May

DAY 18

They new 150 watt COB LED grow light came yesterday
I set it to the recommended height of 24 inches as per the manufacturers instructions. I was just going to give the 50 watt to my brother to start a couple but decided it won’t hurt to have both lights going right?? Lol greedy I guess
Also the ph meter and reefertilizer came yesterday! Getting excited!

Will update with pictures later today

Happy growing!!

Hey @Darcehard!

Nice setup - i'm sure the plants are loving the new light.
Im sure you are frustrated with the slow grow for 19 days - but hold on tight i'm sure they will take off in the next week!
How far is your light from the plants?

The light is 26 inches from the seedlings. It’s been there a day and a half now and they seem to be fine with it. No drooping or bleaching I can see. I stuck the old light beside it as well at 26 inches

You could probably lower that light right down about 12" , as they get taller and such, between 18-21/24 " from the top. @Pennywise , new member here.

Thanks @SgtKiLLx , @Pennywise ! I did notice that after a couple days they really started stretching. I lowered the light to 18 for now. I’ll give them a day and see how they react. Then maybe to 12 if they’ll take it! The growth is taking off tho. It looks to me like the cotyledons are beginning to yellow. Definitely looking smaller or thinner I guess. Might be time to start a 1/4 strength feeding.

Good luck. Signing off for now . Be back on later.

Today I potted up. I could see the root coming out of the drain hole so I decided to do that before adding fertilizer. They didn’t want to come out of the stupid clay pots I put them in. I really didn’t want to try and dig them out so I tapped the clay with a hammer and split them in half lol. Into a one gallon fabric pot now! I watered them thoroughly and left them to rest!

You can really see the cotyledons yellowing now.

Also a pic of the small guys root ball. I accidentally tapped some soil off so I took a picture
