Dimmable Ballasts & Multiple Lamps

Ok. Say i have a 1000W dimmable ballast that will run HPS and metal halide. Single output plug

Would it start and run 2 x 400w HPS lamps if i had a double adaptor for the ballast to lamp cords and set it to 80%????

Am wondering of i would get better light distribution in my grow space doing that rather than 1 x 1000w lamp??

they draw more power on firing, so likely would fail. i know it used to be done on the real old school non digital ballasts, doubt the newer ones would survive. it also helps if you are super familiar with electrical wiring. definitely update the fire insurance if you give it a whirl.
