Jon's ViparSpectra XS1500 Pro Grow

Here’s how we stand:

Sounds like The Dead. :thumb:
Oh you checked it out @Azimuth? Cool. Yes, we started as a Dead cover band and morphed into a 1/2 covers and 1/2 originals. We’re all old tour vets from back in the day. We cried as we played our tribute show when Jerry died. That was a part of my life I will reflect on very fondly on my deathbed.

Hey @Tokin Roll - my best friend and old rhythm guitarist (dude on that recording, Eric is his name) moved back to the Burgh in 2002 and eventually started his current band. If you want, check out theCause. Eric is now a lead guitarist and the only one in the band. Monster bass player. Girl singers including my girl Jill who sings the national anthem at Pirates games occasionally. They take a different approach to the music than we did. They go for polish. Very solid band and the best Dead band in the Burgh. They play the Thunderbird monthly I believe among many other venues.

Thanks for entertaining the sidebar music thing guys but let’s get back to growing weed and the @ViparSpectra XS1500 Pro.

I had an interesting conversation with Vipar Val yesterday. She has been very surprising in terms of asking my feedback on the lights and passing suggestions on to their engineers. I’m flattered and grateful. And since this is a showcase sponsored journal, I would normally “tone down” any of my critique and focus on the positives. However, Val has asked me to share both sides with you.

I briefed down our discussion to the relevant parts. I’ve been watching and assessing the XS1500 Pro as carefully as I know how, and to this point I see the following plusses and minuses. The minuses are to be considered “work in progress,” as Val made it clear that they value grower feedback and nothing in their design team is set in stone for the future. Let me also be clear that the minuses I list here are easy to work around type concerns and not at all anything big enough to discourage me from these lights. I feel they are the best small lights about to be on the market in their price range.
So that said, as I see the XS1500 Pro:

Plusses:
- power is great, especially for their size
- dimmer - it’s fabulous, as good as they come
- spectrum - the plants seem to love it
- build quality is excellent
- size makes them perfect for limited space grows
- heat is quite manageable even without a detachable driver

Minuses/Suggestions:
- they are a bit directional. The ppfd on the edges is not as good as the center. For comparison, the KS 3000 in a 3x3 achieves much more even coverage. I think the lensing is great but this is often the result from it. I wouldn’t use four in a 4x4, for example. Too much edge and corner dropoff.
- as good as the dimmer is, we would benefit from more stops in its sweep than provided on this model….is it necessary? Probably not. Would it be better? Most definitely.
- their size is awesome, but I wonder if making them a couple inches longer would help with coverage, and maybe a few inches wider?

All these are “to this point” observations. Obviously I am still collecting data. But that in short is what Val and I discussed. Man is she good.

Thanks ViparSpectra.

Our girls today - and look how sweetly opened up the Banana Daddy auto is:

That BD is a really interesting looking plant. A lovely "hot mess," is how I see it! :ganjamon:

Looking forward to seeing her to the end!

White Widow
Day 56

A couple things I’ve noticed about a 5 gallon reservoir…. It needs to be ph-adjusted more often, and it needs changed more often. Also using that small of a starter pot results in filling it to the point that water barely drains through it. Takes a while. Lol. Just observations. It’s working exactly like it’s supposed to.

Here she is today.

White Widow Auto Day 60
Banana Daddy Auto Day 50

Res change today for the WW. I thought you guys might get a kick out of seeing how a guy in a wheelchair gets a res change done. Lol. Here it is, beginning after I fill a 5-gallon bucket out back with the hose and use the chair to transport to the tent in the garage.

It helps a lot to have the solid electric chair.

Also: I have exciting news to share from Valerie at @ViparSpectra. I’m putting it together now and will post in a while.

@ViparSpectra
BIG NEWS!!!!
XS1500 Pro

Alright, at long last, Valerie from ViparSpectra has informed me that the XS1500 Pro is OFFICIALLY RELEASED AND AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE!!!!!!

And get this: the price is jaw dropping.

$139.99!!!!!
Are you kidding me? That’s giving them away! For the quality of this light that is an extremely low price. I may snag up several of them I like this light so much.

Here are some features Val sent me to share about the light:

XS1500 PRO Key Features

1. High Photon Density:
The New-Gen Lens is algorithmically positioned to create the highest PAR map and the deepest penetration.
2. Perfect fit in 2x2 tent:
The PPFD in a 2x2 tent is from 900 to 1000 μmol/m²/s, which meet the flowering needs of each plants in each corner. XS Pro Series bring big earns to every grower.
3. Uniform PAR Distribution:
The Ave. PPFD is 942 umol/㎡/s. in 2x2 tent, Boost Yields to Higher Level;
4. Multi-Light Dimming Daisy Chain:
Control up to 20 lights. Save your time;
5. Dimmer Knob:
Easy to change your light intensity as needed from 5% to 100%.
6. Optimized Spectrum:
Algorithmically designed ratio of white, red, and IR diodes, optimizes plant growth in all stages.

On top of that, regarding the par numbers listed above, from my experience so far with this light it is entirely possible to get even higher numbers if you like, just by moving the plant closer. Mine are at 1150 ppfd right now. The heat dissipation is so good that the plants can get close. I’m 8” from the light with one plant, on 100% power, and o don’t have as much as one burnt tip.

The build quality is so good on these that when you open the box and remove the light you simply won’t be able to believe you only paid $139.99 for it, and that’s before you even turn it on.

My plants are loving the spectrum and the growth is quite even in a 4x2 (I’m using two).

The photos show some graphic information on the light that will fill in some blanks, along with good looks at it.
Bravo ViparSpectra and congratulations on the release of a very nice light!

Does that chair come with an optional fork lift attachment?
Lol! Funny enough, I use the feet as that! They raise and angle and all that. Very versatile boat. I mean chair. Lol.

Well done Jon! Do you have an amazingly lush green spot outside where you dump the old bucket?
Lol! A couple! There’s two spots I tend to dump, and both are just like that. Lol

There's a good chance I'm going with 4 of these over SIP's in the 4 x 4 since I won't be able to lift them up onto blocks for evening up canopies Jon! It's a sweet light!

I would do that in a heartbeat. Two crush a 4x2 so four should work very well in a 4x4!
