Oldmanjj's First Run, Soil

Haven't started working yet. :) I suggest an 8 lb bag of each for a 2 month veg and a 2 month bloom. If you combine FF soils, use them as intended. HF is to build roots, so use it for seedlings and in the upper portions of your containers. OF is great for filling the final container with lots of organics and SF is even better. I would try layering the soils, but I would not mix them, so that the roots are able to specialize in each area and take advantage of what is there. Roots organic also has several soils, not a thing wrong with any of them. In a geoflora grow however, the soil is not much of a worry, it just helps the grow to be more better, a term we use here in Missouri, MO better.
I’m from Texas and absolutely love me some MO better!

Update:
6 Weeks 3 Days from flip.

The girls are just doing their thing. I'm struggling a but to maintain the environment now that the temps are cooler outside and the house AC isn't running much. It's not terrible, but I really noticed a difference.

All of the girls are now getting Recharge once a week. The sick girl also get's some CalMag with each watering. They are drinking a gallon every other day at this point.

The Power Plant doesn't seem to be doing much better, although the buds are starting to bulk a bit. It will be interesting to see what the root ball looks like when I finally chop her.
I sure hope all the girls start bulking soon as the buds look on the small side to me.

I made some more infrastructure updates last weekend. 2 more 20A circuits and I played plumber. I cut into the water line feeding my sprinklers to add a spigot, no more carrying water in 5 gallon buckets for me!!

Finally, my lovely assistant called me down to show me the nug she broke off by "accident". I'm not buying what she's selling :) .

Here are the pictures:

And the nug that's now drying in the closet:

The microscope sure works better when things are stable:

Hey OldmanJj,

I’ve been aiming to cruise thru yours for quite awhile. Finally done and dusted!! Place looks real impressive and you have killer talent on board with NTH, StoneOtter, Emilya, Skunksa & Mdlroad all backing you up. Hope I didn’t miss anyone….

Never heard of that Michigan soil but there are good vendors popping up everywhere, still you can’t beat Mistress EmIlyas‘ keen eyes and razor sharp noggin for whacking problems

I wanted to drop this off but I’ve heard the cheap way to get RO is with a water hose type adapter made for recreational vehicles called RO Buddy…. no firsthand experience just the name drop.

alright big guy - keep ‘em green!

I don’t belong in that group but thanks anyways!

Ok, here we go, sorry for the delay. It's update time!!
8 weeks 4 days from flip.

The girls are all getting PH'd water (1 gallon every other day) and a shot of real growers recharge (once a week).

They are getting close, go figure as I will be out of town for a wedding this weekend. The way my luck is, some will be ready for chop by then. What can you do? I guess it won't be too bad as I'm ok with more amber and a couch lock body buzz rather than a dizzy head buzz.

Here is the porn, a lot of it!!

Short update, the Power Plant (the one with crispy leaves) has been harvested and is hung to dry. She was harvested after 11 to 11.5 hours of darkness. Running multiple strains with different finish times prevents a longer dark cycle. Those damned crispy leaves were a bitch to trim out. I'm glad my helpers has patience, they ended up using tweezers to get it out. I'm still thinking this won't be the best product but, time will tell. If it doesn't smoke well, we will turn it into oil and use it that way.

I didn't weigh it out but some of those colas were quite large. Fingers crossed.

After harvest, I took the plant out of the pot to check the root system. It was vibrant and strong covering the entirety of the medium , no signs of root rot or anything. This plant must be super finicky hence the crispy leaves. The rest of the plants look fantastic however, the cola's are nowhere near the size or the power plant's.

I will be checking the other plants tonight, may take one more today, we will see what things look like.

Man, I am so glad I found this place! I am looking forward to learning for you all.

Nutes, if needed won't be a problem, I will post regular pics and seek advice. Soil says you don't need them but, we all know how marketing works, LOL. I thought I'd end up needing some CalMag at a minimum.

@Emilya You mentioned in my introduction post that it should be RO water only :/ Mama has demanded that I stop spending $$ for now (not that it's ever stopped me before but, happy wife, happy life yanno ;) ). I also called the soil company directly, they asked where I lived and even looked at the water quality report for my area before getting back to me saying that I wouldn't need RO water. Having said that, I can filter the water through my refrigerator (not ideal I know but better than tap), use distilled or piss mama off and just get the RO. I will defer to the master :adore:.

I lurked and read your journal on Electro Girl aka Grilled Cheese, that was awesome! I have to ask, are you going to run an experiment with your Ham radio next? You could do a new strain and maybe call it "Ham Sammich"?

Thanks for all the help!!
A small carbon filter cartridge would take care of the chlorine in tap water. Slow flow through the filter should eliminate any chlorine issue. Also, if you do not want to have a filter, you can leave to water out overnight in a wide-mouth open container. If it is left out 12 to 24 hours most of the chlorine in the water will evaporate. Last, if you need prep water quick and can't wait, a small fish tank air pump can be used to bubble air into prep water to drive-off chlorine. That method takes about 2 to 5 hours depending on the volume of water, volume of air and the size of the air bubbles. You might want to invest in a cheap TDS/pH pen(s). pH of the prep water is important if you want to get all you can from the soil. Welcome and good look. ppm Charlie.

@ppm Charlie Thanks for the info. I have it all sorted out. Water goes into a 32 gallon bucket with 4 air stones and a pump for 48 hours before use. I also have a Blue Lab PH pen :)

Update:

Power Plant

Chopped, dried and jarred. 6oz bud and another 1.5oz of shake. This bud was a royal pain in the behind to trim. It also got a little too dry. It hung for 4 days and it really should have gone in a paper bag after 3, maybe even 2 days. The buds were not dense at all.

Blueberry

Blueberry was chopped last Friday. The buds were much denser than power plant albeit smaller colas. Most of that went directly into paper bags for drying. This bud is drying nice and slow. It has a fantastic aroma. The buds that I did hang went into a paper bag after 3 days of hanging. Can't wait to see how it weighs out when it's ready for jars.

The trim was jammed into zip lock bags and frozen. We will be making some edibles out of this in the future.

Critical Mass

This came down last night. So far, these are the densest and stickiest buds. These were broken down and run through my new manual trimmer (yeah, I got tired of doing it all manually). They are drying on a drying rack and will be carefully monitored so they don't dry out too quick. We have a lot of bud from this plant and some really good shake/keif that was deposited in the bottom of the trimmer.

There was a lot of trim for edibles.

Tonight

I will finish the rest of the critical mass as we had to stop last night. It was getting late and we needed to be up early.

White Cookies gets the chop tonight!

All trichomes are cloudy with some amber and very few clear. The leaves are starting to get to the point that the nutes are drained and they are beginning to get slightly crispy. Based on the experience with the Power Plant, they are getting chopped now as the crispy leaves are a pain in the ass to deal with when trimming.

On another note, DAMN my house stinks! There is no way I can have anyone in my home that doesn't know I grow for a while :)

I experienced a dry leaf problem during flowering for one crop. I think in my case it may have been the high intensity lights got a little close to the flowers during the final stage of flowering stretch (high temperature) combined with a slight overabundance of nutes and a short period of lower than expected humidity. Mine looked almost exactly like yours. Those dry leaves are a problem to trim. Tweeters worked well for me. It was labor intensive. I found bud rot in some of the larger colas too during that particular crop cycle. Some of the other same genus plants in that batch were unharmed. For those unharmed plants I had topped and used LST to increase bud sites. They were shorter plants and there were no huge colas but many medium sized colas, better yields with no bud rot or burnt leaves. I use LED's now so temperature is not as much of an issue. I also strictly control humidity, air flow and try not to overfeed. I still use topping and LST. Seems to work well. I guess the old saying that it is sometimes best not to be the tallest tree in the forest during bad weather is apt in this case.

Short Update:

Blueberry is now in jars for curing. RH in the jar is at 65-68%.

6.4 OZ in jars + 2.1 ounces of shake (the shake was what was left in the bowl of my trimmer)

How you liking the trimmer? Would you recommend it ?
