Smokeyjoe's First Grow

Thanks Pan, Weed and Rc51!!

Pan,
They do look yummy and have started to smell of "Earth" if you know what I mean by that. I love that smell. I saw your plant of the month entry :goodjob: I knew you would jump in there eventually! I think your gonna win that 1 for sure!:ganjamon:

WeedRyder,
Thank you very much. I flowered them a bit earlier than I wanted but as it is my first grow in these conditions and with these strains I kinda just wanted to see what they do. Now that I know, hopefully next round they will be even bigger!:slide:

Rc51,

Thanks for taking a look! Stop in anytime.

As of last night my sickest most pathetic super lemon haze clone showed a tap root out of the bottom of its cocotek pot!
I transplanted it into a bigger home and will take a pic once I am a little less embarrassed about how she looks. She dried up once and I had to do some plastic surgery to her but she seems to have come through ok and came off life support yesterday.:Rasta:

Thanks LiveTunes4all and I Dont Rember!

Just got home from a late night grow room break down. My caregiver called me tonight and was having reservations about the amount of traffic in his home and his ability to control it. I went and picked up 12 clones and 2 grown plants of the same variety I have now and a 600W Lumitek dual voltage light, 2 bags of soil, 5 gallon buckets, the works..
I now need a friend around here that needs some plants!!:ganjamon: I have about 30 now and am a bit uncomfortable with that number lol. I also found that a couple of my clones did in fact root so I left them with my father who will probably throw them outside in a nice sunny spot in a month or 2. Well time for me to medicate have a good night all.

This week has presented a plethora of problems for my grow.
The first problem is my soil Ph appears to be way low run through 6.7 water get back 5.2. On my small satellite this has apparently given me nute lock and the sun leaves have hardened, turned a god awful yellow/brown and become brittle and crumbly.

I randomly grabbed some other plants and found similar issues with Ph being to low (no outward signs yet) in runoff. I have begun adding lime to the medium to bring the Ph back in line (thank you Harrythered!)
I really don't know if the smaller satellite will stop its decline before I have to cut it as the majority of its bigger leaves are for the most part dead and the deficiency is moving upwards and inwards towards my precious cola and bud's. It is also appearing on the smaller lower leaves as of today. God I should have been paying attention but live and learn I guess. Hopefully the lime helps, any thoughts?

The small lower leaves I am talking about can be seen below the affected leaf. (before they started showing signs)

Now for problem 2.
I am now noticing on my Super lemon Haze's that many of the lower leaves are yellowing, drying up and falling off. Tonight I found maybe 4-5 smaller dead leaves on the SLH. They start out yellowing and eventually dry up and turn brown. What has me worried is that I am finding this on some SLH leaves.
Plethora_of_problems_010.JPG

This reminds me of the "rust" from when they were young. Should I start spraying again with serenade? My god will my bud smell and taste like serenade? I would rather cut it early.... Not sure what to do...

Now here are examples of the leaves I am finding on the SLH. I pulled some before they died completely to help show what I am talking about.

This kind of shows the progression from limp and yellowing to drying up, is this just normal flowering or something else?

So ya a lot of pictures I didn't want to take or post and I'm sure you would rather not look at as they are not sexy bud porn. I really just posted the update to see if anyone wanted to chime in with ideas, kind words or even a hug. What a shit week grow wise. Lets not even start on the "extreme heat warning" for Seattle area this week.... Anyone have any ideas on any of the issues that have arisen as of this week? Thanks for looking in and for all your support. I'm gonna go vape some Hash plant and try not to think about it to much.:thanks::bong:

Smokeyjoe have you flushed your plant's yet? If not you need to so you can get rid of the bad stuff in the soil. You should see your runoff ph go up once the bad stuff is flushed out. Sometimes you soil will build up salts and they need to flushed out. I hope this helps.:grinjoint:

I also agree with the flushing. That happened to my hybrids also. They were beautiful and in beautiful health and suddenly all of my leaves (starting from the bottom going up) started to wilt and die off at an alarming pace. Some even had black spots. I flushed the soil and that seemed to help. The leaves that were damaged couldn't really be fixed but they stopped dying off. It seemed to happen more with the fan leaves though. This was when i was about 2 weeks into flowering. I read you lose your leaves but i've also read you're not supposed to lose all of them.

Don't fret! I'm sure your plant is salvageable! Just work fast! =)

Good luck!

Pan4gold49,
I plan to start flushing as soon as the next dry cycle hits. Last night I added lime to the soil and watered with Ph 7 water (no nutes) and managed to get back 6.0 which is a bit closer to the mark.
I think after a few days and another watering with no nute's I will check them again and add more lime if needed.
Thanks for looking in on me Pan4gold49 and LushezAmber89!

It makes sense that the soil needs a flush. I am not sure why it didn't cross my mind. I have a couple weeks left in flower and I was just thinking it would be fine until the final flush starts in about a week or so, that's what I get for thinking lol!:thanks::grinjoint:

I also got my new seeds this week the GH Sativa/Indica Mix C (White Rhino, Big Bang, Super Silver Haze, Hawaiian Snow and Lemon Skunk)
For the free 10 seeds this time I got KC Brains "Brain's Choice" which is an insane cross of:

Lambsbread Jamaica 94 x ledo uno96 x white widow from legmar 96.
Indica / Sativa
Inside flowering 8-10 weeks
height 100cm
yield up to 160gms
outside 9-12 weeks
height 250 cm
Yield up to 900gms
harvest end of sept

Should prove an interesting strain with those genes. I am excited to grow some of them all!

Well I am still having issues with my SLH. The lower leaves are still yellowing , drying up and dropping off. Here are some photos.

The Ph is still a bit low, on 2 plants it was around 5.5, on two others it was 6.2 and 6 which is a bit better. But they all seem to be having the same problem. I watered them again today with straight water to attempt to flush the soil. I am shooting for that magic 6.5-7 run-off number.

I have a couple questions.

1.Will just watering them with 7.0 water eventually bring the PH back to around 7 ( too slowly I'm guessing) or should I add some more lime to the soil and try to adjust it myself?
2. Is this even Ph related? Ph is the obvious guess, but this being my first run I don't want to rule something out I might be missing as a newb.

So I am still trying to figure it out and I would love to hear from any of the regulars that feel like chiming in! cough Pan, Ms. Fox etc :cheer::popcorn:

They are 3.85 Gallon Maxi Pots. I do have some 5 gallon pots if you still think that's the problem, I could def transplant them. Could them being root-bound have caused the satellite to hermie?

any stress the plant undergoes can cause it to hermie, there's other facters that can play into it as well, but stress is a biggie.

Yes on both your plant are large and need the room 5 gal will be fine. Your stem makes it look like a two gallon pot.:smokin:

Cool I will transplant them tonight. I have 10 or so 5 gal sitting around and enough soil to pull it off. This would also solve my I have to many rooted clones and not enough pots to transplant situation lol.

I harvested the satellite about 4-5 days ago. I hung them for 3 1/2 days then cut them from the larger stems and placed them into a large brown paper bag. I am opening the bag 3-4 times a day and gently moving them around to let them dry evenly. Still no stems that snap so I am waiting to put them into jars, I think I am on the right track, let me know if not! Thanks for all the help!:thanks::rollit:

Hey Joe, I am curious as to what type of lime you are using? Hydrated or dolomite?
Sometimes my lowest branches that are not getting any light will dry up like that. I always figured it just wasn't getting enough light so the plant sucked it dry. It doesn't always happen but I have not seen it lead to anything else or travel up the plant. Your plants look like they are handling it all pretty well.... You are doing a good job...
:peace:

Thanks Be Irie!
I believe itIt is hydrated lime although they told me it was derived from dolomite but I can't find that anywhere.
Super Sweet
How it Works:
Super Sweet is ground very fine then made into an easy to handle and apply prill. This prill quickly dissolves when water is applied.
That is from the website.
I have noticed that most of these leaves are on the inside as well and not receiving much light as you had mentioned. Thanks for looking in, feel free to thro advice my way anytime!:thanks:
