SofaKing's Grow Show!

Picked up two twin Bookshelves. The measure 19 inches wide 3 feet in length and 79 inches tall. My plan is to put them face to face and connect them together with door hinges. They will both be on wheels and it will open like a book. Or I will just make one big box that measures 38 inches wide 3 feet in length and 79 inches tall.... big box. If i Go with a big box i will open one side and make a door. Only problem if I make a big box is when i move I'll have to tear it all down to move it through the door. Its made out of particle board i believe so im going to reinforce the inside with 2x2 wood along the creases. SOOOO should i go with a big box or have the two shelves open up like a book using hinges? Im thinking about my future since i do plane to move outta here.

Here is render of what im thinking about making them open like a book. Each side will have its own Cover/Door so i dont disturb the environment to much while working with the other side. I like this idea. Here are some drawings.

its kinda small so I hope you can see my point.

its going to help circulate air

OK OK OK... so i know its been like forever since my last post. Im sorry. I have made some progress on my box.... the shell is built! Its 4 feet tall, 2 feet deep and 2 feet 6 inches wide. My original plan was to make something twice as tall but i found out that it would have been impossible to bring into my house. At the size it is now it already weighs a ton. Anywho, the top and bottom look kinda funny because they stick out on the side but its fine with me. I dont have a skill saw to cut it down so its just gonna have to be lol. If you look at the pics below you'll see my DWC set up inside. I got to thinking that i dont know if thats gonna be enough room for growth. But then again I've been reading about SCORG growing and my setup will hold 4 plants so i might try this and do the U shape fence design. next is to paint the outside and line the inside with tinfoil, make the hols for the air scrubber and hang the lights and run the electricity. If anyone has and criticism or any thought or ideas about my box so far, please do tell. Thanks.

Another update. I got my ScrOG done. I like the Stadium style of ScrOG so i built one. Also I silicon caulked all the edges to make the inside airtight. Just another step to control the environment better. Still need to pain and line the inside with tinfoil. I also need to build my air scrubber. Pics below of update.

Revision! I tweaked the ScrOG so it would come closer to the DWC and my plants can start the LST earlier. Its an interesting design and i hop it all works out great.

The exhaust ducting ports into a container filled with dryer sheets. The lid has holes so the exhaust wont just be trapped in there. Now my room smells like fresh laundry.

The first test run with the lights on I found a gap between the door and the box. My quick fix and its all good now.

Ok so thats about it right now. I do have some seeds germinating in wet paper towels. Not much else to mention other then I let my lights cycle through an 18/6 cycle to see how hot it will be in there... my high got up to 90 still. I still need to drill s few intake holes yet but that temp is still a bit bothersome. If the temp wont go down I might just run my cycle through the night when the outside temps are at the coldest. Living in AZ is such a pain in the ass to regulate good temps. Quick question, once my DWC is active will that produce more humidity? I kinda have a feeling that it will. My meter says that the humidity is still around 50-54% so I kinda hoping it will.

hey sofaking i was reading you journal and i agree with kingjon you are gonna need to add and air intake of some kind plants need fresh air to thrive

also if you are just gonna have the exhaust like that maybe you might want to put together a scrubber for the future when the smell might start to become more noticeable plus it will save you money on dryer sheets

i plan in making a scrubber. its in the future budget and Im also making an air intake quite soon. I got plans to use a personal air blower I picked up for free from my work with it, its will work perfect for my plan. Thanks for the advice guys!

OK so i added my intake fan and a top fan for air circulation, here are some pictures:

My first seed popped and is settling into its new home!
IMG_20130915_143547_1_.jpg

Ok so my temps already went down from 90 to 84 I want to get is down to 80 or less would be nice. Its already working! Lets hope it does what I want. Wish me luck.

Ok so I did ANOTHER revamp.... but I at least figured it out. I went and bought a three stage fan that has a built in carbon filter and ionizer for 5 bucks at goodwill. I picked up a few ducting items from Lowes and fashioned myself a pretty kickass exhaust fan that does work pretty damn well. Then I went and mad an Ice chest air conditioner and hooked it all up to the fans that I already had and cold air now is being pumped in. My highs as you can see in my picture with the thermostat showed 100 degrees is there. I took that picture about 10 mins after I finished and let it sit and the inside temp was 86. When I last checked it was 82 which is the best its been so far. Kinda proud of myself lol. oh and I picked up a bag of co2. why not...
