Trichomes vs. Pistil hairs

Hello,
Ok so I've done a lot of reading on many different sites. Most say check the trichomes for ripeness of plant, while others say don't go by trichomes, go by the pistils. What are you people's thoughts on this? I have always just been going by trichomes because I have noticed on my maturing plants that the trichomes are milky white with some amber (which is a good time to harvest for the upper high) but the pistils are all still white and sticking out. So according to the trichomes the plant is ready, but if you go by the pistils it is not. Any input is greatly appreciated!!

Have to make sure to go off the trichs on the bud itself and not the sugar leaves as they will ripen on the leaves way before the ones on the flowers do. Some Strains the pistils never turn orange so can't go completely by that in all cases, the rest it gives you an idea that it is getting close or not to being ready.
