TRUTH and SCIENCE:
Those are exponential BACTERIAL growth numbers! Ultimately I think it is *possible* only with serial cloning and a warehouse - it's propaganda and another example of the way that Special Interest Groups MANIPULATE extreme possibility and state it as common truth/expectation as a scare tactic. Similarly, each person with their organization could be responsible for the birth of hundreds of babies.

Their statement misleads people into thinking that the joints would be harvested from a single plant, as opposed to serial cloning of cuttings. Basic math is not a political strength.


SCENARIO 1) Claim: 28k joints per plant in 1 year or 300k joints from 12 plants. Actually, 28k x 12 plants = 336k, not 300k. Let's work with 28k since it is the foundation of the claim.

Let's assume an unrealistic, skimpy 0.25g per joint. To do that we need 7,000g (grams) = 7 Kg or 15.4 lbs. An aggressive expectation would be that 5 harvests per year may be obtained (indoors only, 2 per year in tropical outdoor climates), so we need to get 3.08 lbs. from one plant every 10.4 weeks. Virtually impossible.

Harvest yield is based on the size of the plant. Size of the plant is limited by length of the growth cycle. We can grow outdoors (slow, higher yields) or indoors (faster, low yields). Indoors we can reap higher yields but must run fewer cycles (4 harvests vs. 5, 3 harvests vs. 4). A five cycle year will give smaller plants than a 4 cycle year.

Outdoors: Very uncommon, but there are people in places with constant sunshine that harvest 3 lbs. maximum from a plant in one year, with one harvest. This is a phenomenal and relatively rare yield. A second harvest is theoretically possible in tropical climates outside the U.S.A. So in theory, a Costa Rican could harvest 6.2 lbs. from one 15-20 ft. plant in a single year. That's only 40% of the claim from Drug-Free Schools Coalition, Inc. In the U.S., for outdoor plants, a realistic rare maximum is 3 lbs. per plant per year, single harvest due to seasons. Rolling that into skinny, ineffective joints we get 5555 joints. Mildly effective, average joints at 0.5g each gives a total of 2778 joints, or 10% of the claim. Dosages utilized by medical marijuana patients using a vaporizer (1g dose) means that only 1388 doses. Again, 3lbs. per plant is an unrealistically inflated value and is used here as a realistic but rare maximum that assume optimized geography and environmental parameters.

Scenario 2) Indoors:
Joe Medical Marijuana Patient, following state guidelines that permits 8 plants total but only 4 plants flowering at a time. Joe takes 4 harvests a year, so he harvests every 12-13 weeks.

Joe gets 8 pre-sexed clones from his local dispensary on day 1. All must go into vegetative growth. After 3-4 weeks 4 clones go into flowering, leaving 4 in vegetative growth that will be cloned later. At week 12 Joe harvests 2 ounces (~ 56g) per plant (reasonable indoor yield) which = 8 ounces. After 4 harvests he has harvested 32 ounces. Assuming a medical joint at 0.8g/joint, Joe got 1120 joints, which is about 3 per day. If Joe is against the idea of smoking due to health concerns, he uses a vaporizer, which is a bit less efficient, so each dosage would be 1g instead of 0.8g (1 joint). With vaporization Joe gets only 896 doses. The logical problem that is ignored is that the active ingredient (THC) may be very low, these doses could be useless. Plant mass has nothing to do with THC content/dose.

Because Joe is running 4 harvests per year his growth period is limited, thus his per plant yield is limited. But say that Joe manages to get a phenomenal 4 ounces per plant because he obtains full-size mothers from his dispensary (which is unusual and inefficient for the dispensary business), which allows him to get 5 harvests per year. In this scenario Joe yields 5 harvests x 4 plants x 4 ounces each = 80 ounces/year. That's 8960 ineffective joints at 0.25g each, or 4480 average joints, or about 2240 1g joints (vaporizer bowls). This is a far cry from 28,000 joints per plant per year.

Even if Joe could again double his yield, which is extremely unrealistic, he gets only 4480g (vaporizer bowls or 1g joints) per year, or 8960 x 0.5g average joints, which is also only 32% of the claim.

Drug-Free Schools Coalition, Inc., kindly respond with corrections to my calculations here and help me understand your claim. Supporting claims with realistic data is of utmost importance to citizens on both sides of cannabis arguments and it is especially true when a coalition decided to spread information to others that expect accuracy in reporting. It appears that unrealistic assumptions have been made by Drug-Free Schools Coalition, Inc. in determining the claim that 28,000 joints may be obtained from a single plant in a single year. Please clarify.

I contacted these people. They admit that the claim is false. They also go on to make a second bogus claim. It's REEFER MADNESS folks - these people think that leaves are "smokeable" and so they include leaves in all of their reporting, which inflates the numbers. That's how they come up with 5 lbs for typical plant. Too bad they don't seek education and practicality. These are supposed to be "intelligent parents" - mom and pop USA. What shame. Check it:

How much pot can a plant produce?

The typical marijuana plant produces 1 to 5 pounds of smokeable materials (leaves and buds). Maybe more if grown indoors under the right conditions. [FN1]

How many joints are in 1 to 5 pounds of pot?

According to NORML, a typical marijuana joint is estimated to weigh about 0.4 grams. If a standard joint is 0.4 grams of average-quality 6% marijuana buds, an ounce of "standard pot" equals more than 60 joints. An ounce of more potent 12% sinsemilla is 120 joints. Thus an ounce is from 60 to 120 joints. There are 16 ounces in a pound. A pound of marijuana can thus produce from 960 to 1,920 joints. [FN2]

A plant can produce 1 to 5 pounds. Thus, at a minimum, a plant will produce approximately 960 to 1,920 joints up to 4,800 to 9,600 joints per year.

On top of that I personally would NOT roll a .4G joint. That is really freekin' skimpy. Mine usually are at least .8
