Avi's First Time Around

I'm going to be growing 2 plants in a 48x24x60 tent under a 1000w LED. My seeds (just bag seed) just barely cracked this morning. Once the taproots get a little bit longer they will be going into 1g pots on 18/6. For nutes I'll be using Foxfarms Grow Big for veg. Haven't decided what to use in flower yet. I do have a couple of questions. I was going to wait for the taproot to be 1/4 inch long. Would it be better if I just put them in soil now with it being just visible? Also how long should I wait before feeding them? Thanks! I'll be posting pictures after the are above soil.

Hi Aviendha.....welcome to the site!
Generally when it comes to your plants, I would wait until my Tap Root is quarter inch or longer before I put it into soil. That being said, some people just take their seed out of the package and directly into soil with it.....its taste I believe. Autoflowers are notorious for being SUPER sensitive, so a lot stay away from the paper towel germination method.
Although there's going to be a variation on this answer, I only ever feed my girls after I have seen her above soil for 20 days. I start with 1/4 strength, progress to 1/2 when needed, then full strength by end of week 4 of veg cycle.

I probably will up pot later on but starting with what I already have from my other plants. I don't believe these are autos but I really can't be sure. Will be fun to see how they progress!

So I let the taproots get to a quarter inch and was just able to put in pots today. Will need to add another fan to my tent I think. Temp is currently 90 in there with 27% humidity.

Ok Houston we have already run into a problem. My light has something wrong with one of it's fans. Just sounds clunky or like it's dying. Hard to describe. Yikes!

Thanks to you both! I've fixed my light and both seeds are above soil. Due to the light problems they are way above soil but still have the seed's shell on. I'm going to add some more soil in a few minutes. Still got to about 86 in there so still working on that.

Just showing where we're at. They're adorable little things. Just before and after adding soil

Thanks @Lady G2HM , miss you hun.
Yeah that portion of their life is actually one of my favorite stages. If you have the opportunity, and she hasn't lost her cap yet (strugglin)..... Always a good idea to help her if it gets stuck. Just be super careful! I generally wet it with a spray bottle at lights out and help with a toothpick if necessary.

Glad to hear the lights up and running again.....what was the issue?

If you continue to get stretched stems out of your girls, you can continue to add soil right up to the bottom of the cotyledon leaves (small round 1st leaves) as all of the small hairs on your stems are potential root sites.

No nutrients at all for now. Type of water are you using? Is it from your tap, Or is it RO water?

Right now I'm just using tap water. One of the fans in the light was a little loose and crooked so I opened it up and got it straightened and tightened up. I've heard that for seedlings and veg you can do either 18/6 or 24. If there any advantage to one over the other?

glad you got it straightened up, sounds like an easy fix with no expense involved...... Doesn't happen very often LOL.

I used to do 20 / 4 over 18 / 6, but alas I've read about them needing rest time and surrendered. For autos, 24/0, if you can pull it off..... the more light the better or so the saying goes. I'm a firm believer that if they do need their rest cycle.

Ok, I'll leave it at the 18/6 then. Doing 4 pm- 10 am at the moment for heat purposes. Just added an intake fan and an exhaust fan so that should help as well. Both girls have their shell off. They're a little malformed from it being on too long but nothing major.

Late night update: With the changed light schedule and other fans added the tent did not get above 82 degrees today and both babies are perky. xD All in all a good day. Ugh, I should have been to bed hours ago. Tomorrow is my Monday and I have a 60 hour week ahead D:

Yuck!!
I have the same light for my summer months in my veg tent. They're not crazy expensive and they produce amazing vegging results! Congrats on conquering your heat issues.....mine required air conditioning lol. Any time you can keep costs low, while maintaining environment.....that's a win!

Babies seem happy and healthy. Wish I could spend more time with them this week. One of them is clearly growing faster than the other but both are well.

Maybe it'll be obvious in the coming weeks but mark the vigorous one in case you decide to clone in the future. You want the ones that exhibit "crazy growth".
