Christmas tree lights?

I know a silly question but I was looking at our new lights on the tree over xmas and they are led and very very bright now I'm growing in a tent and my question is could I drape the lights in my tent up and down the poles to give more light?.
Is it worth it or not?.

A par meter might be able to tell you whether it would help. But with inverse square law, wrapping them on the tent poles might be too distant for them to have effect. I think the mini lights are less than half watt each, so they'd have to practically be touching the leaf. I've had the same idea, except to wrap the lights around the plant itself, to let it grow over and provide some inner canopy light. I'm getting a meter next week so maybe I'll test out some different holiday lights.

Isn't there a difference between Xmas LEDs and LEDs designed to grow plants? If not, then the LED arrays are way overpriced. One could build a cheepo LED array using Xmas lights and a styrofoam sheet.
