Companion growing

Quite by accident I have found that when I planted sunflowers in my outdoor garden plot to form a screen I was also benefiting my crop.

After my third year outdoor in the eastern California desert I have had exactly zero problems with insects of any kind. Just recently I read that sunflowers attract good predator bugs.

Another advantage in desert conditions is if tall types such as Mammoth grey or kong types are planted throughout the grow is that they provide some shade and break up the wind patterns that can damage plants.

I would not recommend this for guerilla grows as a bunch of sunflowers in the wild would surely draw attention but garden or back yard grows will be harder to spot and encourage benificial insect predators.
