Quick question. One of the girls has appeared, but still has her helmet on. What is an appropriate amount of time to wait before performing surgery?

I'd give it 3 days. I mist lightly 3-4 times a day being careful not to overwater. If you do perform surgery, use tweezers and be very gentle. It should pop right off but give her a few days to try on her own. After all, it's a tough world and you don't want to spoil her so soon.

I usually wait about 2-3 days aswell, give her a little time to harden off, if she looks white inside dont do it

I'll try to get a decent picture of NL#2 in a bit...funny part is, #2 was what looked to be the better seed. #1 was a runt, and I didn't have a whole lot of hope for it. I guess looks can be deceiving.

I really couldn't get a decent picture. BUT, I didn't really have to worry. Cap came off #2 with the lightest of touches. No panic! Onward and upward.

Within minutes of the cap coming off, #2 unrolled and started to spread her wings!

Congrats on the new addition.
She's cute.
What kind of light is she under? I ask because she is stretching and I believe the lights need to be closer, or raise her toward it.
Is that a cocoa mix? Whats in it?

They are just basic CFL's. I can raise it up to help. This one was the runt of the litter, but the first one to germinate, and the first one to break the surface after being put in the soil. Which, BTW, is about 50/50 nice black earth and ProMix. I was wondering if they weren't stretching a bit. They are nice and strong, though.

Edit: Pails have been raised about a foot, and I cobbled together a reflective tent around the girls.
