Great that with everything you’ve had to deal with, you still take the time to welcome new members amazingly, offer help and input without hesitation and put together this probably thee most important post on this site! I really appreciate your kind words.
It is behind us now thankfully.
But it's a possibility for anyone growing inside so I want everyone to be informed of the dangers.
Don't want it happening to anyone else.
So glad you read through and can apply the recommendations to your own grow.
You know it happens so fast if I wasn't right there everything would have been lost.

Mine are three feet wide, six feet tall, and 18 inches deep. I cut
a hole in the top for the lamp and two others for fresh air. In this
setup, flammable materials are at a minimum. By the way, I use
a modest 250watt HPS in each.

Hello everyone.
Here is my question.

How do you prevent a grow room fire?

Do not let this happen to you.

For those of you who don't know I had a horrendous fire in my grow room.
For those that do know, Thank you for all your love and support.
Everyone here has been a godsend of love and positivity.

My recommendation for everyone is as follows.

1- put drywall on the ceiling and walls of your grow room.
Any fire retarded material is recommended.

2- install atleast 2 smoke detectors in your grow room.
Install one directly above your light.
And one at the opening that can easily hear.
And a CO,2 Detector at the opening.

3- do not put panda film near any heat source or possible source of ignition
panda film is flammable and produces toxic smoke it will spread the fire everywhere.

4- do not use wood or any other flammable material to hang or brace anything in your room.

5- install a full size fire extinguisher at the entrance to your room.
Make sure its easily accessible.
Small fire extinguishers are not sufficient.
They discharge in seconds and do not do the job you are expecting.

I CAN NOT EMPHASIZE THIS ENOUGH. GET A FULL SIZE EXTINGUISHER!!!!!

6- do not use thin or cheep extention cords.
Get minimum #14 guage extension cords #12 would be better.
Don't cheep out here.

7- if you use a power bar make sure it has a GFI breaker on it.
Don't use cheep or dollar store power bars.
Spend the extra 20 bucks and get a good one.

8- keep your room tidy.
Do not store anything in your that is not needed.
Especially if it is flammable

9- do not overload any circuits.
Make sure you are plugged into a 15 amp breaker.
Do not change breakers to 20 amp.
If you need more power run another dedicated circuit to your room.

Please do not let this happen to you.

Since growing is legal here you Must inform your insurance company that you have a grow.
Just because its legal doesn't mean your covered.
You must inform them and fill out a small questionnaire.
There won't be a problem you just have to let them know ahead of time.

Please everyone head my warnings.
Don't let something like this happen to you and destroy your life.
These small measures can mean the difference between cleaning up a mess and loosing your home or worse.

Please be careful and weary of possible problems.

Well it's officially over.
Insurance paid off the people who bought the house.
With minor fire damage still not repaired.
They signed off on everything so we are done.
She has been driving us crazy for 6 months almost.
Get this, she got a cheque Friday for another $98.000.00 after we gave them $25.000.00 at closing just to get rid of the house.
But I just want this behind me.
And Stacey and I are so so happy here.
We are settled in nicely now and Winter Princess is still kicking
All is good.

Good morning @Slipdog01 great idea.
But that looks like the mini?
I had 2 of those, the first was not big enough by the time I came back with the second it was engulfed.
Pitch black thick smoke no power fell crawled around got in there lost most of my facial hair fell again and crawled out.
Smoke inhalation and could have got lost down there with all the boxes packed for the move.
Anyway I digress sometimes, the point is
If I had a  BIG fire extinguisher the first time who knows right.
$30 bucks more might have saved me $25.000.00.
And a lot of terrible repercussions.
I'd recommend the absolute best fire extinguisher and smoke detector you can find.
I don't want this happening to anyone else.

Wow, what a terrible incident, I’m glad that you are ok and able to share your story for others. I read the thread a couple of weeks ago and within 24hrs had two brand new smoke detectors ( one in the rafters over the tent and the other on the basement stairs) and two new 10# extinguishers ( one next to the tent and one at the bottom of basement stairs), I also have a 20# er I’m going to get recharged.

All cords are new 12 ga heavy duty and basement outlets are on their own separate breaker.

A grow room fire wasn’t something I had given much thought since I set up 3 months ago but after reading your story it’s now always on my mind.Not to the point it’s stressful just but enough to keep me more vigilant about the little things.

My new 400-watt LED panel only has a 5' electrical cord. I was NOT happy about that. I was hoping for a 10' one, and worried that it might "only" be a 2 m (6' 6.74"). So I'm going to have to use some kind of extension cord. I realize that load is minimal, but...

Probably not nearly the potential worry that the temporary 3-prong to 2-prong adaptor it'll get plugged into is.
