First Aquafarm Hydro Grow

To be honest.. I've kinda lost any track of schedule a while ago..
I'm kinda hoping they are still willing to go a bit more, making the buds full and complete.
but when to switch them to plain water.. and for how long?

well I'm not cutting them down yet :)
yeah most of the main buds and second layer of buds are still white haired.
At the bottom of the plant on the small buds the hairs are turning though.
I'm hoping they will still go on a couple of weeks..
Then I'd have some very satisfactory buds.

I have added a heater.. temps were too low.. reddish hue on some stems..
and I put them on ph adjusted water with just a hint of nutrients..
I thought they slowed down and the main bud leaves show signs of something.. grew paler while the nerves stayed a bit more greenish..
I've also raised the lamp.. maybe was a bit too close.
and they were drinking.. but less, and ph went up only ever so slightly over a couple of days, ec remained the same.

I know you are growing hydro and it goes a lot faster then soil but if I was to guess from looking at the color of your pistils you should have a least 3 more weeks. Normally for me the pistils have turned about 80% by the time it is ready to chop
 
That's Interveinal chlorosis a symptom of Magnesium deficiency. Give them some Epsom salts (Magnesium Sulfate). The ladies really need more magnesium in the bloom stage. Act fast and you should see a recovery in a few days preserving the yield, which the deficiency affects.
If you have cal-mag then that can be used. Otherwise Epsom salts can be added to the solution to increase the TDS by an extra 50ppm to get the requirements right.

I've got epsom salt.. so I'll try that tonight... isn't it usually sprayed onto the leaves?
See how does one recognise this as Mg def? to me it could have been Nitrogen (although that would start at the bottom leaves not the top right?) or Zinc or Phosphorus as they all look rather similar in the early stage to me, but I'm just going off those drawings.

I thought so too that the plant was slowing down, I put her on plain water in the weekend..
and yesterday I noticed that buds were active again getting fatter : )

Well there's an idea. Spraying the solution onto leaves should speed absorption and recovery. Magnesium is recommended between 50ppm to 200ppm, so you could initially go to 100ppm without any trouble. Interveinal Chlorosis of older leaves is definitely Magnesium. I had the same problem and they recovered in around a week. A Nitrogen deficiency shows an overall pale green colour even if it's combination of both elements, since Magnesium is associated with Nitrogen uptake.

They are looking mighty fine, wont be long now. :thumb:
 
I know : ) wet towel in the face world you live in.
but yeah at this stage I wouldn't want to get the buds wet either.. they are getting very dense.
I could however carefully treat the affected leaves.
and add to the res.

Overal they are doing nice though.. a few hiccups along the way but well to be expected first time hydro.
I really like it though, a lot less messy than with soil, and I'm not minding the results at all.
I'm not too worried bout this batch anymore.. although I'd like to give them the best last weeks possible could make some grams of difference..
but I can't wait to get them out, dry & cure and try them..
I also can't wait to get to cleaning out the tent and making the modifications to the tent and the aquafarm.
With all I've learned this time I'm going to save myself a lot of trouble next time..

i followed this thread after first encountering it as i'm using an aquafarm myself.
i drilled more holes and added some air-stones. then after the first week added an external reservoir for easier water access, drilled some holes in the aquafarm frame to fit 2 rope ratchets for easy lifting due maintenance ...

can't wait to see what you got in mind for further modifications :goodjob:

And I can understand why you opted for an external reservoir..
I often asked myself the past months.. now wouldn't it be easier if the reservoir wasn't under the plant..

so yeah basically I'm gonna drill extra holes for the roots and one in the res for the airstone
I'm also making inserts so I can divide the clay pebble reservoir in 2 or 4 sections so roots don't mingle there and go down to the res.
I'm gonna update the dripper system, it's old and worn (it was a gifted aquafarm)

I'm not using the height of my tent at all so I thought I'm gonna put the lights up high and raise the farm so I can drain it properly and have workspace at the base of the plants...

and well just get it all nice & tight.
I also need some more effective and energy efficient heating
I didn't heat the tent until last week when it really got cold, but the heater I'm using is too bulky and I think I can do without a 1000/2000w heater in there.

And some bloom leds strips will be added.. I'll know soon which ones they are..
half meter strips.. something Philips.. and they are mainly red or so I have been told.

The cooltube I've got.. well I like it as it keeps the area under the lamp very comfortable, instead of hot
The lamp is protected, it doubles as exhaust of the tent... so yeah I like it..
but the footprint is pretty small.. the reflector side of the story isn't all that. two tiny 'wings' that clumsily click on it.
and well how the plants grew.. that's pretty much the area that is well covered by the lamp the buds placed themselves where the light was optimal.. but well yeah I went for the cheapest cooltube option.

I just need to figure out how to get the most out of the setup that I can.
As for the moment I'm not yet saving money with growing my own : )
Heck this first grow is my most expensive smoke ever.
I'm guessing I'm gonna get around 80 grams out of this grow.. maybe a bit more if they show some oomph the final weeks.
 
is it okay for me to put them on really plain water? nothing added.. Ph 7?
as now they have gotten a week of plain water + ph- and epsom salt.
and I kinda feel like rinsing out the medium again tonight and give fresh water..
I always see a boost when I do that.. roots are out in the air for 20 minutes.. lots of water through the medium.
a day later they alway seem to really appreciate that procedure.
