HerbsNBuds' First Cloning Experiment!

HerbsnBuds, cloneing is a great idea if someone knows what they are doing and by the looks of things, i'de say-YES, you do. Much success to you. SMOKEON, SAMWISEE.:bravo:

Ok so here are the results... The clones that had the leaves clipped did not all grow roots as fast as this but most did.

The one that I didn't clip, also grew roots fairly quickly but if there is any indication that either method is better for the overall growth of the plant, I will of course post my results.

But as far as I'm concerned, I will be clipping the leaves on every clone from now on!

Update... 2 of the clones have been moved to the hydro drip setup and will be spending some time dry to get the roots to spread out.

Both have fully rooted so I put them in the setup.

And the first AI sprout also went in but its partially soil... still under the same drip...

I love this shit!!! :hookah:

So... I decided to relocate a few of my plants so as to not have all my eggs in one basket so to speak, so I started another self contained 6 plant setup at a friends house and transferred 3 sprouts to him. 1 of the AI and 2 of some bag seed I sprouted. The smoke they came from was I believe a hermi cuz it had some seeds inside some nice looking and tasting buds. We'll see.

My only concern is the space but I figured another SOG inside the cabinet with 6 plants should be fine for now until we convert his walk-in closet... evil

I need to get some lights though. He has 2 aquarium 23W bulbs, 1 soft white and the other daylight. Using em for now until he spends the extra $$ on some CFLs.

Pics on this one soon!!!

I just noticed that the color of this plant has drastically improved since I put it in the drip system.

looking good...
so, no noticible difference between the one you cut the leaves on, and the ones you didn't?

anyways,,, they look good,, so you did well.. :)

No difference and I think I killed em. Not sure exactly what happened but they are all dried out and no large roots have formed still in most of em.

I planted 2 of em, 1 of each kind that had some nice root growth and both had cut leaves.

They may go on to live but I don't think that many will live now for some reason...

Took the cracked seeds out of the rooters and placed them in soil. I'm short on pots so I placed 5 seeds in 1, and 1 in the other. All Aurora Indica seeds except for 2 have cracked and formed the sprout end. Had to help out a couple of the little girls with their shells. They were a bit stubborn but they will live on. So now I'm left with 7 AI after giving 1 to my buddy and scrapping 2. Not bad that 80% cracked. However, only 2 of the Afghan seeds show promise at this point and will stay in the incubator.

So just a quick update on the drip setup.

Clones are still dry except for a misting to keep them moist. I want the roots to shoot out the bottom so I can mist em within the system. I also need to get another gang box and the air stone from PetSmart

I'm an evil genius and created a monster. A self contained drip hydro & aeroponics in 1. Some may even consider this a DWC because even now, the roots of the soil grown plants are soaking in the nutes. So a 3 in 1? If I set up a drain and fill system (Ebb & Flo), 4 in 1? The possibilities are endless!!

Here you can see the roots hanging out of the bottom...

Good news... Clones are ok and growing roots again. :phew:

Here's the latest on the setup...

I topped the one on the left again. Its getting too tall already. Now it will be nice and bushy. Gonna try some LST on it after it grows its new branches.
IMG00429-20100825-1443.jpg

And the newest Aurora Indica sprout is starting to open its baby leaves...
IMG00430-20100825-1443.jpg

Only 2 of the 5 free Afghan seeds have cracked open but no sprouts. And if only 3 of the 10 AI actually grow even though 8 cracked, I'm never going to use the rapid rooter again for germination. I have better luck in the paper towels and then immediate transfer to growing medium. Although my track record for growing only females remains intact at this point so if they are all female, I really won't care, but won't know until I flower em so at this point, I want as many to grow as possible.

Another clone was transferred to Perlite medium today. This one is from the AK-47 and will be grown in a pot separate from drip system to see the growth difference. The other 2 clones are coming along nicely in the system and forming new growth and roots every day.

Photo Update...

the other AK-47 clone which has 2 nodes from buds already so should make for an interesting plant...

And the setup continues to expand as well...
IMG00449-20100826-1404.jpg

So that's it for today but l say we're looking pretty darn good. Nice and healthy but I need some ventilation in this room. I like the high RH in here though. Perfect for veg and cloning apparently.

Gonna go :roorrip:now.

I added the air pump and air stone to the setup to day so now its a bubble system as well. They are looking great. More pics in a few days.

All plants doing quite well. Aeration is helping drastically on the growth of the root system. Since this setup combines techniques for drip watering, for hydro DWC and Deep Water Culture, I'd say the results so far exceed my expectations for a relatively cheap setup.

Using the soil runoff I'm sure increases nutes to mix and I will compare with the same system using only MG Perlite & Sphagnum Moss. Water is unfortunately not going to be a constant for this test as 1 is city, the other is well, but the nutes will be identical.

You are quite the grower HerbsNBuds!. I wish you were my neighbor as I don't know anything about growing. Much success to you. SMOKEON, SAMWISEE.:Rasta:

Thanks SAMWISEE!

Aurora Indica soil grow... (with a Afghani sprout as a bonus!)
IMG00477-20100901-2115.jpg

Afghani sprout transplanted to its own soil today in a round white pot identical to the one it was in with the AI.

Seems that all plants are doing well and definitely showing signs of rapid growth. Topped the 2 on the right and center again last night. Have to keep these ladies short. I'm trying to get another HPS but this time I'm goin for a 400. I currently have a measly 250 but now it'll be 650 combined for the next flowering period. Should make for a more dense production than the last which I think is kinda on the skimpy side just due to lack of lighting. 650 will do much better.

3 clones left that are showing root growth and 3 transplanted already for a total of (hopefully) 6 healthy clones out of the 11 clipped. 4 showed mold so removed em and 1 just flat out wilted.

So count is 6 for 11 so far

Going to clone the clones as soon as they have enough nodes to start to flower. Hopefully with better results but I'm definitely clipping the lower leaves of each.

Off to work and :hookah:

The Afghani sprout...
IMG00491-20100902-2114.jpg

The setup as it stands. Some nute burn that was corrected early on still showing on the early leaves but concentration was reduced and PH controlled...
IMG00492-20100902-2115.jpg

Started some LST on the right most bag seed hybrid grow... topped 3 times prior so I'm hoping for a lot of dense colas and short fat buds...
IMG00493-20100902-2123.jpg

Clone #3 now has a humidity dome as is looking greener by the day. Also noticed expansion of root system so I'm pleased she will grow into a healthy duplicate...
IMG00494-20100902-2125.jpg

Clones 4, 5, & 6 still slow but definitely showing potential. I actually re-cut these and applied new rapid rooter and stuck em back in. To my surprise, it worked and they are now growing roots...
