How far to have my light away

its a 400w hps light just put them in new pots

how far should i put the light away they are about 4days old from popping out the soil

If it's uncomfortable for your hand to stay there, it's too hot.

Stick with 12" away for now, as it grows older you can get it closer.

I normally keep my 600 18" away for normal growth, but when just starting from seed or seedlings, I add 6" or so. No problems yet.

For a 400 I believe 12" is normal, so try adding 6" for starters and use 18".
