What would be a safe distance to hang a 600w metal halide bulb from the top of my plants?

should be a graph on the protective sleeve the bulb arrives in... 
haven't used mh for ages .. iirc we ran 22 to 30 inches above as safe.. the further out - more stretch. i remember burn at 16 - 20 inches or so. strain dependent.. don't take my numbers gospel tho.. it was a long time ago..

I go 16 to 20" with 1000w but better to start a little high and slowly lower untill you find the sweet spot for your strain
