First time grower here. Can you adjust the light based solely on the Lux meter? Between 60,000-85,000 is supposedly ideal for flower. however these numbers based fr M my meter brings my 400watt HPS within 6-8 inches from my plant. I use the hand under the light method and it's quite warm but bareable. Or do I also need a par reading or just stick to the 12-24 inches. Thanks for any responses.

10,000 lux seedlings
15-25,000 lux veg
25-50,000 lux bloom

take your LUX, divide by 63 for LEDs,(strips, QBs, samsung) 73 for Mono diodes (mars ect.) 57 with Mono diodes with lenses.

Its not exact, but gives you a basis to go on.

Some plants like 20-30,000 lux for veg, so like higher.

Mayne, same question for you: What are you measuring lux with? Also, I really don't think that a lux meter calibrated for white(ish) light works for LEDs, and that just dividing by 63 is simplistic. There's just too much spectral variation. No offense intended.

With a real lux measurement device (not a smart phone app, which give really inaccurate results), 80,000 lux is a much better number in white light. (Just for reference, my deck in the summertime gets over 100,000 lux at noon.)

yeah, I remember that Scientific.. I use Dr.Meter Lux meter, top shelf of LUX,lol, well, $30 it was.

and, the strip conversion is on par with 84, not 63, per Riders strips.

I have strips to, but no par meter, except my DIY meter i made. So now, i have something to "calibrate" it with.

What we know is, Strips have the a great spectrum, so par is irrelevant to an extent. because we know the spectrum meets growth requirements, What we need is intensity readings.

I built my own strip light, and have the same meter as Rider, so if his rig is on point, i have to go by his numbers till someone else throws LUX readings up with strips. Im getting the same per 100watts per lux, so Im happy so far,lol..

Yes, some cheap under $40 amazon buy. I was just wondering where my 400watt HPS should be in referrrence to the Lux readings. I’m keeping the light between 8-16 inches from the canopy. Between 50,000 and 80,000 lux

Every type of light is different. And if your temperatures are high (at canopy level) they have to be farther away. I use my Lux meter to find low level areas and move the light to balance it out.

During veg on my current grow my plants would wilt at 30,000 LUX. Now while flowering I have the top colas at something like 70,000 LUX with my CMH 315. The rest of the canopy is 25,000- 50,000 LUX.

I had my colas on my White Widow Nirvana Auto Flower Grow at the recommended level of 70,000 LUX (1200 uMoles /metersquared PAR) Using my SunSystem CMH the leaves seemed to be getting burned. So. I increased the distance about six inches. Now at 840 uMoles/meter squared. Or 50,000 LUX.

What are you using to measure light? Just curious.
