Morning all, just had to vent about something.

So Saturday was my company's Christmas party, which was a nice dinner & drinks at a really nice local hotel. My girl and I went, got a room there so that we wouldn't have to drive, and had a fantastic time. I twisted up a few spliffs for us and we went outside to a remote location to smoke a few times throughout the party.

Great night.

Fast forward to this morning, and our HR-girl comes and grabs me and discreetly has me follow her to an empty conference room. She proceeds to tell me,

"Hey Spark, just wanted to let you know that a guy who works here approached me yesterday to inform me that at the Christmas party he smelled Marijuana on you and your girl. I told him that I appreciate his coming forward to tell me, and that I would tell my boss (HR head honcho) and we'd look into it. That seemed to satisfy him, and I'm not going to say anything to her, but I thought that you should know just in case anything happened, I want you to be prepared."

God I'm glad that I have been nice to her since I started here, she really got my back on this one.

Great, just great. I've been kicking myself all day for being so careless. I figure that even if this guy (couldn't get a name unfortunately) drops it, if one person noticed it I can bet that others did too.

Being an IT guy, my very first instinct was to begin a search through our email server for my name as well as any proper or slang term for pot. Got nothing back but that doesn't surprise me, as our version of Exchange doesn't support too much in the way of searches (only subject or attachment really).
After that I made arrangements to be able to open any HR-Related mailboxes I could find (including the HR Boss') without being detected.

But then I started thinking about how horribly unethical, and against my own moral code that would be. Not to mention how exponentially worse it would be if I were somehow caught doing that in addition to the other.

So now I'm horribly paranoid, and running through scenarios in my head, and driving myself downright berzerk.

I just can't understand the mentality of someone who tries to ruin someone else's fun. It's of absolutely no concern to me what someone else chooses to put in their body. I severely resent anyone who would try to ruin someone else's employment for something as benign as a little bud. It's probably best that she didn't tell me who it was. I CAN NOT WAIT until this country drops it's ludacris prohibition of this phenomenal plant, and all of the moralistic tools will have to piss off and mind their own business.

Anyway, just wanted to share my little reality check this morning. I often forget that this little indulgence\habit\obsession of mine is still illegal.

:peace:

Hope it works out for you!!!!
My feeling is it will blow over but you might want to have a back-up plan.
Like some stuff so you piss clean.

first and foremost, Dude WTF?? I work in IT as well (well i did till i got laid off for cost savings..) and i am appealed that youd think it was ok to search peoples e-mails. not matter whats going on that's a no-no.

2nd man that guy is a jerk, should find out who he is a dump porn on his work computer and report him. hahaha, no of course not that would be wrong.but man what a bummer. id hate to hear some one gets fired cause some one smelled weed on some one. I mean wtf?! hope every thing turns out just fine

You couldn't be more right, I've been doing this for over a decade and I've always held myself to a high ethical standard regarding other people's privacy. It was an "oh shit" knee jerk reaction, and I've already decided against actually doing that. It's kind of scary what we're capable of doing out of a sense of self-preservation.

And yeah, if I found out who it was I could come up with a myriad of ways to wreak havoc, but honestly that's just not me. If I were to actually do something like that, I'd be far worse than some goody boy-scout snitch.

Thanks man. You're probably right, most likely nothing will ever come of it. I probably should obtain some clean pee (HR girl already gave me the skinny on the specifics should I actually have to go take a test), and keep it somewhere not too far away.

I've never really trusted any of the detox methods. I had a horrific experience with folicle tests and every method imaginable to beat them. Even if they work, I just don't like to leave things like that to chance.

Something similar happened @ where my wife used to work (before she got laid off). One day, some busy-body reported to the boss's secretary that one of the girls there, a data entry clerk or something, smelled like marijuana. So, it came down from his office, that they would be starting mandatory drug testing of all employees shortly.

Of course, if they had done that, probably better than 1/2 the office would have been fired lol. It was just a scare tactic and ultimately nothing came of it.

If I were in your shoes, and they asked me to take a drug test, I would insist that they drug test everyone in the office. That could be financially ruinous, depending on how many work there. Or, anonymously, report a large number of people, stating that they smelled like marijuana, just to even the playing field.

Better get that HR girl a nice Hallowthanksmas present!!
