update, take a look and tell me how much of a noob i am

(all was done with stuff i had around the house (except for cfls))

ok, you see the angles of the stems, well it looks like stretching, bad or good?
the yellow dieing looking leaf on the biggest one, what does that mean? bad ph?

i did germ a bunch, but ill narrow it down to 6, then to two mothers (if the quality is on par) harvest 4, clone 6, rinse and repeat until i die.

i plan on getting a 400w hps setup soon, also going to build a dual chambered grow cab, out of either pvc frame with black plastic, or wooden frame. haven't decided yet (but i have plans for both ready) ill be going out Friday to get nutes, ph meter, temp gauge, and a 3 part soil mixture.

i think my babys hate me right now, i feel bad for starting before getting everything i need, kinda like getting some fish and not owning a tank.

So first i will try to answer couple of you'r questions...

About the stretching:
When plant stretching that means plant ask's more light.
So it's offcourse bad, but not very much and for first time dont take huge care about that.But it would be better if you will get some more CFL's.
There is example for you why stretching is bad...
So same age plants:
Stretched(4 same age plants-7 weeks old/still in vegetation):

With Good Light(1 plant-7 weeks old/first flowering week):

oh yea...about that leaf...dont worry at-all that leaf just like umbilical totally not important for plant , i suggest you to cut dead place away.

400w hps is very good i plan my self to buy it at end of summer...

And if you will buy the hps system, i suggest you to buy grow tent insted grow cabinet building.
This will be more confortable if you will need to put that cabinet/tent to other place, or just remove...or if cops will come for many reasons this is better.

I plan to buy grow tent 120x120x200, and full hps system at once... so i wish you luck with all of this and remember at end of 1st. grow second time will be much better!trust me...

well just in one day my other plants are catching up, proving the bad soil good soil thing. the first 6 i germed, was a potting/grass trimmings compost mix. The soil from the others is potting soil, with no nutes added. Seems like the nutes coming from my tapwater is just enough, just a theroy tho, going to get a ph tester in a few to make sure.

my bro gave me his fish tank and some chems that came with it. Says ph 7.0 is that ok to use on my babies?

As for my setup, I am using a corner of my closet for right now, although my plans for my setup will be too big to be moble. Since im going for a Mothers and cuttings section with cfls, and a flowering room with the hps in it.

They way i look at it is, if i was to get caught by police, thats the risk im taking and i need to accept the fact that people get caught. But if i do it right the first time, there should be no problems at all, i mean, ive been at the place for over a year, and only one other person has seen the inside of the room im planning on growing in. I trust him with my life so no problems there.

now that you know about my future setup, what would be the best way to determine sex, early 12/12?

If you want to know sex in early there is technique i heard:
When plant grow some branches.
Take some little bag or something like that to cover any branch you want to show sex.
Bag should be opaque, put it on that branch you choose, look for that branch could breath easely...But shouldnt get any light.

Period when to use:
Put bag on branch when your plant gets day period.[18 h.~]
Put off the bag when plant gets dark period.[6 h.~]

Sex should be show'ed about 1-2 weeks period, if you will look closely...

They look great....and look ready for pots Nice army of seeds to start with...much luck....will be checking back And lights can go 2 " above plant tops....long as you got fan blowing on them

what size pot do you suggest? i know that 3-5 gallon containers work the best, but for a potential scrog grow i need to have smaller. Should i put them into a veg pot (medium), and then to the flowering pots (3-5 gallon)?

yes that how i did it...they got final pot when they went into flower room...which made it easier for me with 2 gallon containers in my small veg room
and they were big enough for me to train them to keep them low

good good, im going to wait untill i get them at 18/6 before i transplant. Im also getting 5 more cfls, which will make 10, 17800 lumens, and im making a light box with some plywood to have a more even distribution of lighting.

decision has been made, going to use cfls throughout the veg stage, and the 400 hps in the flowering room.

Sounds awesome I think the cfl's work much better than fluro's i had in veg...and for now it is all i use in flower room...next grow will use hps for sure when flowering

i have a 7x3x7 foot area i can use. thats 21 sq feet? right?
minus say 5 sq feet for whatever, leave 16, 2 plants per sq feet, 32 plants at say 3 ft tall?

If i get one ounce per plan ill be happy.

but, i want to get me a good motherplant first, so i can clone, so i need to minus some sq feet for the veging/clone section.

anyone have any pics of what i think im visoning?

i have built houses before so i know im able physically, but not financially. :\

i growed with 2700k., and with 4000k.(same strain) this was huuuge diffrence so 2700k and 6500 k will be much bigger diffrence so , i think yeah this is not so bad but still not good...~2100-3000 k good for flowering, 6500 k perfect for veg.
btw if you want to grow only with cfl's look:
i would buy ~ 6-8x 20w 6500 kelvins bulbs for veg.
and 10-16 20w 2700 kelvins bulbs for flowering.
then you should get good results of grow!

yah thats good, even better.Diffrence..: you would need not so much of them.
for veg.:5-7 x 26 w 6500 k.~~
for flow.:8-13 x 26 w 2700 k.~~

I'm glad to see people are discussing cost of electricity and not stealing it like some silly folks do but i guess this being such a good site you wont get people like that.

we are not necessarily talking about the actual cost of the electricity, more on the required temp or different spectrum for different stages of growth. After some research, I have confirmed cigos explanation is dead on.

6500 for veg (higher spectrum, simulates early summers bright light.
2700 for flowering (lower spectrum, simulates shorter days getting closer to fall)

new questions -
Lighting:
how can i formulate how much light penetration i have? i have a 20 amp breaker, will having close to 25 cfls be too much for the breaker?
Bugs:
I seen a small red insect with black spots (too small for a ladybug) on a leaf. Bad or Good? One of my larger leaves since birth has had what looks like bites or deformities, 1/4 of the leaf is gone. Should i A. Let it go, dont worry about it, get some sleep at night. Or should i B. Pull up the seedling and discard it as a loss.
Transplanting:
My plants are setting in 6 pod growing trays, i have the treys doubled up to make them a little stronger. How do i know if they are root bound, and how should i remove them from the slots. (Ive had two ideas on this, one, cut the plastic trey out from around the soil. two, let them dry out a tad and attempt to pull them.)
