Hi Debrya and welcome to 
That type of chronic pain is a tough one. I have 2 herniated discs in my back so I can sympathize. I think a large part of the pain relieving benefits occur because you are relaxed and distracted from the pain because you just all around 'feel good.' So other than to say 'something potent' and probably an indica I don't have any more specific recommendations.
