Not sure if I’m doing this right

Ok so I started off my grow with an unknown seed and I’m hoping for the best , the sex is also unknown ,I germinated in a paper towel and the tap root showed up after one night I let the tap root get about a half inch long before I planted it in potting soil “ this is all I had available” and set it on my balcony “ I live in south Florida “ the seedling grew very fast, but I noticed it was super tall and was fearing that it was going to fall over , I was watering every morning just enough to wet the soil , I realized that I was over watering on day 4 and I ended up moving it into a bigger pot. Day 2-4 I noticed no changes, I also noticed that my patio was only getting 2 hours of direct sunlight per day so I moved it inside to a controlled environment.

Is a stall in growth normal for root development ?
My assumption was that I was over watering and lack of sunlight

my current arrangement is
-24 hours of light
-76•f
-Fan blowing on it lightly
-humidifier
-Hanging light about 5 inches above the plant

It’s been in there 1 day and I noticed a small jump in height but not much
It’s currently day 5

My main concerns are
1. Should I give it time without the light
2. Is the stall in growth around day 2-4 normal
3. Is my set up adequate for a smooth grow
4. Should I get a light that emits no heat ?
(The average temp in the room is about 70 degrees f

Change to a good quality LED grow light as soon as possible. On LEDs it's the voltage pulled from the wall that's important. Since you are just starting I'd get a Mars Hydro ts 1000, 150w pulled from the wall.

If you get serious about growing later I'd add a 250w Samsung Led diode light with a Meanwell driver. With 400w you can get an awesome yield if grown right.

I'd look at Mega Crop nutrients, one nute beginning to harvest and inexpensive. Keep Cal/Mag handy and some Superthrive. For like $60 you have all the nutes and suppliments you need.

On the balcony when the seedling got very tall it was stretching for more light, when you repotted the seedling you were able to fill dirt around the stem and it grew ok. But now you’ve take away the sun and given it only 100 watts of incandescent light. Old school growers use 600 watt HPS, this was surpassed by blurple LED’s, now everyone is using white LED’s with even better tech.

You don’t need the newest tech but you need more wattage.... however white LED’s will push more wattage with less heat generated and grow better buds. You know it’s good when the old school growers switch out their fixtures. Just like Apoc said Mars is good, so is Budget LED check out our sponsors - @SmokeSara is the Mars rep and checks in here all the time.

You can run the 100 watt incandescent to keep it alive for a few days but you need an upgrade soon. You will also need nutes & cal-mag. Megacrop is very popular and easy to use plus there’s plenty of MC users here when you need guidance.

100 w incandescent bulb

Nearest thing to useless.

when should I change it out

Yesterday. Get a 24-watt CFL - 6,500K color temperature (aka "daylight") by preference - and hang it horizontally (with a homemade soda pop or beer can reflector, if possible) a few inches above the seedling. Or a screw-in LED bulb that you've popped the cover off of and hung vertically (give a little more distance for one of those). The seedling will probably begin to stretch towards the light; you can lower the CFL to an inch or two away (again, a little more distance if using the LED bulb). Plan on quickly upgrading the lighting from there, even if it's only by getting several more of the same bulbs. But definitely no incandescent bulbs. They produce... like 93% heat and 7% light  .

Or stick it back outside, where it'll at least get enough light to survive.
