Spotting amber trichs is a PITA!

I have a 60x loupe and a 100x pocket microscope. this is frustrating. I think I see some ambers but when I go to focus on the area better, i lose my spot! ugh definitely see milky ones

The loupe doesnt enlarge it enough. The plants are changing to fall colors and the hairs are mostly red. 9 weeks

Yeah, I've taken a piece off and moved it away from the LED light.

Thinking I'm gonna start flushing tomorrow

Anyone have words of encouragement?

I literally just got mine out of the post box and I'm trying to figure out how to use it. Any tips, please let me know.

Oh, I feel your pain. I bought a loupe then a lighted 100x, then a better camera...just to see those damn trichs. I have found that depending on where you look, you are going to get many...completely different....pictures. I stopped using the trichs. When mine are showing about 75% red hairs, I pull a bud from about 1/2 way up one of the main branches and test it. The trichs were "born" at different times depending on their location on the plant. The very first trichs will be 2 months older than the newest. It drove me crazy trying trichs. I do it by color and test smoke.
Good luck, this is an age old question.

Heyo!

Thanks for the bud porn dude. Great pic.

I am/was in your boat. Like a week or two ago lol... I have a white widow at 9 weeks and the other at 10 weeks. I wanted to start their flush so badly! In fact, I started to flush but had a change of heart and am glad I did. I kept reading peoples logs who did tests on plants, with cloudy/clear trichchomes pulling one at 9 then another at 10,11 ,12 weeks and the longer they kept em, the better they were (Keep in mind they would chop if trichomes said to do so, but none were ambering until later like yours and mine). The thing in common that they said, was to wait for the first signs of ambers then flush. Well actually, people like to wait a little longer, but I have shit to do, not trying to melt into my couch. I want to be as high as the bud allows but can do without the couch lock. So after feeding plain water once, I just went back to feeding. Now that I've waited a bit longer, yesterday I noticed my first amber trichs. You can't miss em. Once they are there you will know. Hold strong is my advice. It's hard AF but no biggy, you've made it this far. I plan to have these suckers go 12ish weeks. I would be so cheesed if I cut them early when all I had to do was wait a week for a much better stone. If you plan to off your stash then chop but if it is personal then stay strong. My flush starts next watering and am looking forward to the yield.

I find that anything more than 40x magnification is a real PITA to use, and less magnification works better. Looking at the trichomes is useful once in a while but once you have an idea what to look for you can just go by the overall appearance of the plants and buds.

I agree here :geek: So many factors come into play to determine maturity. Trichs are a little trichy.. :)
Not all strains are the same. Some hardly amber at all. Especially auto's. My latest photo cross doesn't want to amber on the outside, but open up a bud and it's golden delight on the inside.

:Namaste:

Those are some beautiful nugs though! :thumb:

Ha ha. Reps for that witty remark, Mr Gypsy. I didn't know that about autos. My sativas too, rarely ever show ambers and they'll just keep growing with new clear trichomes along with the cloudy ones till the end of time, or till they start to act weird and reveg, more likely
Also I harvested a Pineapple Chunk at 105 days that was as ripe and gooey ready as any bud possibly be, and then some. Looked at the trichomes and they were almost all clear. Though to be fair it was very smoky in the room. Anyway I pretty much stopped worrying about trichomes after that.
