I bought what I thought was some good weed recently in Winnipeg. When I got home, I realized it had a smell like ammonia. Is it contaminated? What if I soaked and washed it in sterile water?

Either your goodness was not dried properly and completely prior to packaging or, it was sprayed with water prior to your purchasing in order to add weight to the sample. The ammonia smell is due to an anerobic (no oxygen) condition that takes place when organic material becomes wet and then begins to rot. Airing it out and drying completely may help depending on the severity. I do not know whether or not you knew your source but un-scrupulous salespeople will sometimes perform this scam (spraying the material) to increase profits, hope this helps...
