its a very acurate definition of a hippie i also think a hippie is one who can see truth as its given, through marijuana my understanding came together i remember in the early 90's watching madonna and evryone just loving her music i hated it i saw right through it, when i smoked marijuana i understood she is a perfect fabrication of what people behind her think will be accepted they write all her music give her the look and give her all the credit blinding people from the truth, truth being that the machine we call the press and mtv actucally thought for you never giving the beholder the actual choice of declining or accepting it was just shoved right down your throat, i always knew i was a hippie fact is even today i cant stand rap its all the same ''look at my chain look at my car look at my hoes'' rap stands for all the materialistic and nothing of what is related to a life of simplicity, if there was more simplicty in the world there would be less war less violence, and in the words of john lennon ''if people actually demanded peace instead of a new tv set theyd get it'' and i see right through rap and brittney spears and all that other materialistic bullcrap i also better understand the politics of today in which i can best sum it up as,the hippies are the liberal democrats who are pro abortion and anti-war and the republicans are the preacher religiouse conservatives who are anti-abortion pro war i mean theres a bit more detail in my words but this pretty much sums it up as the core of what polotics are about in this country today, where all the old people (my grandperants) voted for bush(republican) and all the young people of america(myself) and the left over hippies (my dad) voted for kerry(democrat) and its a joke when we see celebrities like paris hilton say on national televison ''oh yeah im with the republican party bush all the way'' when this slut is exactly what republicans stand against, like water and vinegar they just dont mix! indeed the inner hippie of today understands that the music of today shoved down our throat by mtv is fabricated crap and the polotics in our country are even crappyer and the only way to cheer up is by not giving a damn light up a joint turn your computer on listen to the beatles on your ipod make you a nice cup of coffee and chill out relax comfortably knowing that the world as ignorant as it is will always be here but that doesent mean you have to live in it or ''buy into it'' thats not to say society as a whole is messed up and u have to be sad about it im not saying that, i enjoy music from the strokes and oasis i think of the few music out there that is true these two bands represent it, and with many people knocking clinton fact is he was a much better president than bush, and theres light at the end of the tunnel like people knocking arnold shwarznegger i think the man came into a situation 6 feet deep and is doing a good job trying to get us outa of it even tho he is a republican his position on many issues is a very liberal one so the hippie of today can blend in with the crowd at a nightclub drink dance and have a good time but also sit back relax and see things for what they really are!

now jerry im sorry to bash u like this but u just typed like 2 paragraphs of shit, none of which were about hippies.....to me it was confusing and full of bullshit not to mention the fact that its all your OPINION...

the main reason im responding to what you sayd is because you MTV like its a bad thing. you say mtv plays shit that they want to play and makes you listen to it...first of all nothing is being shoved down your throat because you can change the channel at any time. ya personally i somewhat agree with you on mtv....mtv is going to shit...i dont think they play much good music anymore...but the mojority of people do like it and thats WHY they play it. they play the music that is going to bring in the biggest crowd.....thats how every business works....now the thing that really got my attention from your words of wisdom, and it really actually offended me. you say you always knew you were a hippie in the same sentence that you say you dont like rap....im here to say that not all hippies are going to agree with you when you say hippies dont like rap. in my opinion you are not a hippie...nowheres near being a hippie..for one major reason the fact that you state hippies dont like rap....thats bullshit.
now i have quoted you above....you say rap is all the same its all about cars and money and hoess now let me ask u a question when has eminem, for example, ever rapped about his cars money or hoes....none that i can remember. im not much of a rap fan myself, but that doesnt mean that its no good. there are some rappers out there that only rap about the materialistic things but there are also some rappers out there that rap about life....again im going to use eminem as an example...eminems lyrics talk about NOTHING but his life....and i think there pretty good too....do you know how many songs eminem has about the love he has for his daughter.....quite a few....now please tell me how that is materialistic?? please....

have you ever heard of bob marley? im sure you have....now what about damian marley???? its bob marleys youngest son...damian like his father is a rastafarian..im sure u know what that is too...also like his father he is a musician...and yet again just like his father his music says alot about the marijuana culture....the main diference between damian and bobs music is the fact that damian marley is a rapper.....im sure there alot of hippies diggin damian just as there are alot of hippies diggin bob and honestly im sure theres alot of hippies that are diggin both damian and bob marley.....

another thing that i really dont like about your words is all the political jibberish...in my opinion a hippie isnt that involved with the government to say there rupublican or democrat....i dont think there are any non poser hippies out there for the government....there may be i cant say what is what...

about the political aspects oh yeah no doubt about it hippys arent fixed democrates they have their own party the green party! but when it comes down to picking sides all hippys go democart the biggest reason why? cause nixon was a republican and pro vietnam! and what were the hippys? and the next president was vice president gerald ford also republican who served the remaining 3 years of nixons term and granted his good freind nixon a pardon and this infuriated the hippys! but come election day 77 who did the hippys vote for? jimmy carter democrat i rest my case! hopefully now u understand a lil more about why hippys lean toward the democrats

Being a hippie is a state of mind. The 60's are gone,most of us have jobs, cars, and computers. There's nothing wrong with that. Living off the land costs money!!!
Anyone who wants to live in the woods better have money to buy the land, or live on BLM land or something. Personally, I like to take a bath, sit on my couch, and smoke a joint.
If I didn't have a computer, I wouldnt be able to talk about being a hippie very much. No one I know smokes pot, and I am primarily homebound. So this makes a great place to talk to people who think the same way.
I don't wear caftans or harachis anymore, I shave my legs, and I use hair gel. But I'm still a hippie because of the way I feel about life, love and nature.
Don't get hippies mixed up with naturalists. They aren't the same.
Also, if you decide to go live in the woods, make sure your laptop is wireless.

I don't think of myself as a hippy, I don't have views of socialism or anything like that. Everyone of course has thier own view of thinking and thinks everything should be one way or another. No one is the same, everyone is a hippy and no one is a hippy. There are just different groups of people, conformists and non-conformists and there is nothing wrong with either. Just different views and every group is just as thickheaded. I think the stupid ignorant name calling of hippy is bi-ast, they just didn't like the way they thought and what they lived for. People have views and no one can accept anyone elses views cause everyone is just different. THERE are no hippies!
