Only you can answer that question! I was just pointing out that it's difficult to perfect a growing technique if you're yet to sort out the medium/nutrients/watering system.

I don't think I am. I am not going for perfection, just feeling my way as I learn new techniques. Certainly not trying to "show off growing skills"

No reason you can't try both at the same time, but it does make it difficult to diagnose any issues or know what works and what doesn't when there are a lot of spinning plates.

I accept that and understand that is part of the risk.

It is too late in the game to drought the Gelato auto 1. It has been 4 days since the last watering and I can't see this plant going much longer than a couple more days. The leaves are still praying even though the soil is dry. I won't water again at this stage anyway.

Maybe once a week, it was mostly to control the wild fox tailing I was getting

Thank you Joe. It's quite remarkable what back-building can produce! I can imagine how the bud rot can get established in the thick of buds like yours in damp weather.

Thank you Valerie. This is how I learn best, by "doing".

I've already learnt my first few lessons in droughting and bud back-building.

1) I'd have to apply the droughting practices earlier in the flowering, from the 7th week I think, in order to get the proper effects. My plant is on day 79 above ground, and 40 days in flower, putting it right in that harvest window.

2) With regards the back-building, I've taken my first few snips and feel less worried about how that affects the plant. I'll look at it again next week and assess whether or not to go for more snips. The pistils are turning caramel coloured quickly now as the plant is on day 25 of flower, day 79 above ground.

I feel a harvest is imminent

Chom my flat smells like heaven! As I approach the front door I get it. Ah and horse riding... I miss those days I hope you find your psilocybes. Is it Porcini season yet? Have a great day in the heat. I think the city traps the heat. Here in the shadow of the mountain it's pretty cool still.

I love growing autos , love everything about them. You have to be careful though because if you make a mistake you don’t have the time to rectify it. Your doing great Carmen , nice photography. Your going to have a great harvest and that’s really what it’s all about , at least with me it was .

Someone needs to invent some bud scented air freshners haha.
I'm not sure when porcini season is but I got a few basketfulls after those heavy winter rains a month or two ago. Tons of pine rings which are still around, porcini, other boletes. Think the psilocybe season is done here by a month or so. Well at least for p. Cyanescens. I have not found any other species of psilocybe in cape town.
I have a good feeling I'm going to pick up some panaeolus though. They love the decomposing horse drolls. Just gotta wait until homework is done before I go search. Haha. Priorities.

I’ve found some regular breeders that crossed with autos that grow the most productive plants. Dark horse genetics being one. He has a Bruce banner cut that he’s done some amazing things with. He has some autos pulling 10-15 ozs from .

Thank you for your kind words SSg, and I wish you the best of bud building with your autos! I wasn't very keen on growing autos to begin and did so because we often have electricity outages that will adversely affect a photoperiod grow. I'm developing a fondness for the autos as I become accustomed to them. I look forward to my next grow when I change soil and start top watering as soon as they are in their big pots.
