Colorado High - Soil - CFL - Easy Rider - 2013

Day 3 of drying and this morning I spent 2 hours trimming all of the buds, separating out the popcorn buds and trimmed leaves from the bigger buds. The branches were still bendable and the buds were slightly moist with the string of buds nearer to the front of the grow box slightly more dried out than the string further towards the rear. Below is a shot of the harvest prior to trimming -

The 24" diameter hanging drying rack contains four separate sections, which are more than enough for this harvest, so I used only one section and placed it top on the catch tray, a plastic hot water heater drain pan.

The drying environment remains stable at ~60 degrees and between 40-50% RH. I figure that the harvest should finish drying in 3-4 days, after which I will begin the cure.

Day 5 of drying and the buds have pretty much completed drying. The larger buds are crispy with a slight give to them, the smaller buds are crispy, the thinner stalks are brittle, the thicker stalks of the colas are almost completely dried with only slight movement when I attempt to bend them. Therefore, I have started the curing process by placing all of the buds in 2-1 quart size glass mason jars with one Boveda 62% Humidipak in the bottom of each jar. The total dry weight of the buds that were on the drying rack and the plate was 56.80 grams, or exactly 2 ounces, this does not include the trimmed leaves. 2 ounces was the goal I had set for myself at the begininng of the grow, with 1 ounce being more likely IMHO. I'm very pleased with this outcome and consider this grow an overall success, especially with regard to the quality which I value over quantity. Towards that goal, I am letting this harvest cure for at least 2 weeks before I do a taste test. I know that with better products and techniques I will be able to improve the overall grow process and results. However for my first grow, I really have nothing to complain about and am quite pleased with the results of my efforts over the last 4 months.

Reps are in place CH, pats on the back buddy. Glad you were able to label your first grow as a successful journey :Namaste:
Also glad to see in your sig that those super skunks are Sprouting! Anticipating the next journal for an early sub :peace:

It has been exactly 2 weeks since I put up my first harvest to cure in 2-1 quart glass mason jars, each with a Boveda 62% Humidipaks, inside a closed carboard box. During that time I burped them twice for an hour each time, the first time 12 hours after the start of cure and the second time 24 hours after that, then I let them stay sealed in the jars until today. I believe for my next cure I will try it without any burping as it appears that the Humidipaks have kept the curing environment perfectly stable. There is no sign of any form of degredation of the buds, they look and feel exactly like they did when I last checked them at the beginning of the last burp 12.5 days ago. The stalks are brittle and the buds are firm but give just a little when squeezed slightly. Their color is a pale green with spots of red and orange. Note that I have found a few seeds in some of the lower popcorn bud so at least one stamen made it through my obsessive checks.

It smells so much better than it did immediately after the harvest. That sickly sweet smell is, for the most part, gone and replaced with a sweet, piney, pungent aroma. It smells quite different than it did when it was flowering, I really liked that smell and miss having it around. It grinds very easily into the proper size for vaping with either my Arizer Extreme Q or Vapor Genie vaporizers. It is a very smooth draw and immediately sends me on my way with a clear buzzy high right off the bat, a creeper it ain't. This initial high lasts for at least 2 hours, with the maximum rush occuring in the first hour, and its effects can be felt for 4-5 hours. It does not fall off so much as transform into a nice and easy couch-lock high, not overly sleepy but definitely a much more relaxed and mellow high as compared to the initial rush. The leftover mulch I'm using for brownies which give a much more subdued but definitely noticable high.

I'll post another taste test in 2 weeks to see how it has aged and matured.

Well, it has been 4 weeks since I first started curing my harvest and it has completely stabilized being stored in the dark at room temperature with 62%-64% RH. The smell hasn't realy changed much, a little more mellow. The initial high is more powerful and lasts longer but otherwise a very similar profile to my first taste. Overall, I really enjoy this strain and look forward to when I can do another grow of Easy Rider.

If there are no other posts and/or questions, I will close this journal sometime within the next week.

Congrats on getting to the end, those buds look delicious! :goodjob:

.Do you have any girls ready for round 2?

I just started my 3rd, I;m trying BAR & LA's method/s this time, their plants go through rigorous training, but that's the kind of plant I want.

Trying not to kill the 2 remaining Super Skunk plants that are now vegging. ;) Don't know if there are any ladies yet. Looking forward to your next grow trichomes!
