First Timer, LandoC Attempting Indoor Purple Kush In Soil, 2020

First off, I’m very glad I have found this amazing website, filled with information, and a wealth of knowledge from veteran growers!
I’m LandoC, hailing from Cloud City...here to increase my knowledge, and get valuable information on how to grow my own kind of dank. I decided it was time to start supplying myself the much needed herb with all the time I have on my hands, during these strange times that we are in.

I acquired myself a 4x4 Gorilla Grow tent, with a 600 watt dimmable ballast (MH/HPS), 6” air cooled shade, the shade is being cooled with a 6” inline fan (blowing, not sucking), filtered air intake for the fan. Another 6” inline for exhaust, I have a carbon filter but it’s not connected yet...almost out of seedling phase, so no odour yet. 2 clip on fans, and 1 small 6” floor fan for inside the tent air moving...plus the environmental systems, humidifier, dehumidifier, AC unit. Way more things than I thought I would need, but the deeper I go the more I want control of my environment. It’s very humid where I am, very common this year to be 85-95% RH.

I had a rough start, a friend got me some Black Indica clones that were covered in mites...I tried to deal with them, then decided I didn’t want to start my growing like that! I had them for just over a week when I tossed them to start fresh. I did multiple cleanings of the room and the tent...I have my tent in my garage, and it’s never been so clean and fresh!

I wanted to start from seed after all that! So I ordered some Purple Kush seeds from Crop King. It just so happened the night I put them in water to start germinating, was the night of the “Strawberry” full moon. The next morning all but 4 had popped, by that night they had large tap roots so I planted all 5 in soil...within 2 days they were all above ground, today they are 17 days old...and I am of course worried that I have some deficiencies. 1 of the seeds took an extra couple of days to pop, so is behind in development.

I have been trying to keep temps at 65-75f, first week RH was 55-60%, now at 50-55%RH...
Soil is ProMixHP, with added Worm Castings, Gaia all purpose, small bit of Gaia Bloom, Neem Cake, and a dash of diatomaceous earth
I have watered 3 times since sprouting (17 Days old now) I probably overwatered at first...how I found this website was being directed towards Emilyas amazing write up on Properly watering a potted plant...which is why I decided to do a Journal, for the help and guidance of some very knowledgeable people on this forum. I digress, sorry! Last watering was 2 days ago...I added 0.5ml of Cal-Mag to 1 gallon of water with a PH of about 6.3-6.5.(no aloe)
I also mixed in a small amount of a ground up Aloe Vera plant with the first 2 waterings as I heard it was good for root development? The leaves were starting to twist, and some of the growth looked a bit off to me. Upon some investigation into water PH, I bought some PH strips to get an idea...I believe the first 2 waterings may have been slightly acidic? Strips read as about a 5.6-6ish...

I have the light dimmed to 400 watts, it’s at about 28-30” above the plants now, temperatures are around 73f now...

I am a little concerned about the colouring of the leaves, and the twisting? Could be paranoias, I found a nutrient Excess/Deficiency chart...now I’m worried I have at least a Sulfur deficiency?

Hopefully I have covered it all?

A good day to all, thanks for all the future research, and help growing some amazing plants!

Welcome LandoC to 420 Magazine
I see your in promix hp , you don’t have to ph the girls. They look great !
Here’s a link I know you’ll like

I have been contemplating what to do in regards to either LST, or HST, or a combo of methods? It’s yield and potency that we are all after isn’t it? A delicious flavour as well of course! Should I try topping one or two, maybe some LST on one? Or being my first grow is it wise to just grow, observe, and learn a few things?

Have you checked @InTheShed signature
He has lst and supercrop

Indeed I have, there are lots of great threads to read thru...@InTheShed...is probably the first few forum threads that I found to read...I’m a research junkie, and love the search function!
Thanks again West.

Here are some pics of the girls, going into day 18...the most advanced of the bunch “Grace” is working on her 3rd set of true leaves, they might make it to their teens yet? The water consumption is starting to speed up as well, a transplant is getting closer...is it water consumption that I base a transplant on? Or is it the size, and number of true leaves? Everybody seems to have a slight variation of what method works best?

You making this tough on a hydro grower. I see soil growers flip the pot and slide it out of the pot to check roots then if there happy they go on to up pot .

I lowered the light 2” this morning, also took some inspiration from @InTheShed ’s LST tutorial...put the little one in traction, I guess it’s time to try my hand at training...

I guess I can wait until they are more mature before hitting them with the 600watts? I have the ballast dimmed to 400 super lumens...which is 440 I believe?
I run my HPS at half power through most of their veg. I'll only really bump it if they start getting leggy on me.

I transition them up to 100% through the 2-3 week "post flip" stretch.
