Need second opinion

@Stunger yes you would be correct I have a presumed female in the tent as well (photos of pistols and baby calyx) which is why I'm leaning towards not taking the chance and removing the other sooner than later.

Hi all, so I have two mystery plants growing currently (journal in signature 😁) same age same lights, nutrients everything and I have initiated flower cycle two days ago to see what the sex is since they are unknown seeds. Since then I have been watching them very carefully and have noticed one is not like the other 👀..... But I'm not %100 sure..... So I would like a bit of second opinion on the one in question before I just take it out back have an office space moment.

4 photos of are the plant in question.

Hello you! Welcome back!

Looks like balls to me 🥎 🎱

To me the 'crab claw' appearance and the 'pedestal base' make it a male in my books (and limited experience!). The fact that you say the other plant is different suggests that you have one of each gender.

On the assumption that the plant is not further advanced elsewhere, then I would not expect that you need be worried on keeping it for a little bit longer while you wait for more confirmation, as before pollen balls open they first develop into clusters of balls which from what we can see are not showing on your plant yet.

Here are a couple of pics of a male that is a little bit more advanced that I am growing out for the purpose of collecting pollen to make some crosses.

Nice 👍 trichs on the nuts always a good thing

Awe look at his teeny little balls💚🤗

That is very interesting. I've never thought about forcing it to show sex. Does that mess with growth pattern, cause your practically pushing it to pre flower to show, then flipping it back...revegging? Or is it early enough that the plant doesn't notice? Could that cause herm issues?

Still a newb.
No issues at all that we've noticed since its so early in the plant's life. And it's only for the first ten days, not until it shows, so no revegging or anything like that. Then in the normal course of veg it will typically show sex by day 30ish.

That one's not presumed female, it's full on female showing pistils (really stigmas, the white hairs) already.

Yes showing all female parts, I shouldn't have said presumed lol but with mystery genetics there is still that chance that it could be a hermie so that's where that came from.

Personally I don't follow the 'stipule rule' because I have had males with crossed stipules in the past.
I don't follow any rules tbh, but that is why I stated it would be the first I have seen. I suppose I should have also stated that I have very little direct experience, as the 4 or 5 I've personally grown is a very, very small number.

Hey Sueet, no worries, altho some rules are good, mainly the ones we can benefit from. I have accumulated a few from my own mistakes and learnings. I did once view the stipule one as a useful guide until I had an exception, after which I decided it was too unreliable for me to use, and that's been reinforced by encountering additional exceptions since. All the best.

Lol right stipules, node spacing, height, smell, etc are all the pre-tells I've tried and none are consistent ... With the exception that I've noticed male plants smell almost soapy ...but still cannot be used as a definite sign.... Unless you see calyx and pistils visibly there is no %100 surefire way to tell.

Alright so I don't think I need anymore time to decide..... It's getting a whole lot of claw and stick-n-balls...

So an eviction is in order.

Photos below of him before send off to Valhalla.... And yes I may take him out back and defeat him in battle 🤣

Your Breaking his balls lol

I agree with your conclusion. Only decision left is whether or not to save some pollen to do some pollen chuckin in the future. 🤔
It's bagged... Maybe in the future once Im %100 sure with soil growing I'll give it a try.
