Old Bagseeds'n Stuff: Relearning the Grow - Feel Free To Ride Along

Day 2 above soil. They get to keep the lego piece.

Working on a new node but still looking pretty sad

20240405_155417_(1).jpg

I'll try and give them a chance. Anyone got ideas for dealing with moldy pellets? RO+H202 only getting me so far & the wicking humidifier didn't work out so we're back to the cups over top. 😔

Looking great in the cups tho'. Water PH'D at 6.3 & no fuzz coming up yet. Crossing my fingers.

Lose the cups over the top. Seedlings don't need it, they're better used for a short time with clones. You'd be better off bottom watering to keep the humidity up. Might have to re-soak the cubes if they've dried out.
Word I'll try that. Will have another go at the wicking humidifier too with an actual terry cloth & the fan pointed away. RH don't budge from 16 all day & lots of bushfire smoke to make things that much better.

Day 3 above soil. Some good changes been made.
The terry cloth in water worked even worse. So I went down to the thrift store again. Finally picked up the world's smallest "air cooler", an air filter for a Buick Grand Prix, and a big sheet of activated carbon prefilter. Few minutes later the tent has cleaner airflow and the RH is good.

Sad...

Day 5 above soil. Heat mat is in. Cables everywhere.
This tent has light leaks... In due time I'll be going around the edges of the zipper with a sponge brush & some black acrylic paint as well as the corners of the outer lining. The viewing window has black duct tape around the edges. I'm not sure what to do about the intakes that will make them light-tight but still allow plenty of air in. Much to think about.

The cup seedlings couldn't look anymore different from eachother. Nice comparison between narrow and wide leaves. There's a little bit of yellowing that I hope should even out now that the soil won't get so cold at night. I think they seem a little leggy so it could be time to bury the stems.

And the pellet seedlings... They're still mad about life. I scraped off the tops of the pellets like I should have earlier. They're getting yellow at the tips and a little burnt on the baby leaves it would seem. 😔

Thinking about wether I should pop a couple more seeds from the jar of rando's or wait until I get paid again to pick up some genetics for later. We're early in so the surprises are still a-coming. Crossing my fingers.

Day 10 above soil (I think). Kind of an eventful week. Pulled a muscle in my chest, it hurt so bad I thought for a moment I was having a cardiac emergency.
The pellet babies didn't make it. Once I decided to take them out I crumbled the pellets, the roots were rotted alright. I got a little heavy handed about keeping them moisturized.
20240413_142200_(1).jpg
Before the roots could show up I grabbed a craft razor & made long slits around the cups to get them some better aeration. There's some white powdery crap growing in the bottoms of the cups so I'm letting them get their dry cycle, then I'm gonna try something anti-fungal like neem oil. O.C.D. likes to get the better of me, it's always been "Not wet enough!" about something.

This one had a spray bottle dropped directly on top of it a couple days ago, while I was burying the stems!
20240413_142431_(1).jpg

Leaves are looking a little crinkled...
20240413_142353_(1).jpg

I like this one. Leaves are looking nice and wide just how I like them. I think I have another seed of this strain, whatever that may be, in the germ jar. Hoping for the best.

Feeling like a couple more pics today. They got perky af

Seeds dropped in the water 'round 5 PM yesterday. Cracks already, I imagine they'll be in the soil by tomorrow.

I've got a fungus question, hoping somebody can drop by and help me out.
So I've got some mold growing in the bottom of my solo cups. I got overzealous with keeping them moist and the heat mat is there, so you can imagine how that went. It turns powdery & white & has brown spots.
I'd like to nip it in the bud ASAP & I'm planning to use baking soda. Only thing I'm not sure about is application. How would one go about this? It should be watering time soon, so should I water, then have a solution of water and baking soda in a cup on the side to set it in? How much and for how long? Any other household things I could try? H202+RO is only doing so much, but I don't know if it should fizz or anything like that either, so I'm a bit lost.
Worst offender pictured below:

If it's just in the bottom of the cups I'd just use the H2O2. That will fizz and break down into just water and kill anything organic in the process. I'd put a little in a slightly larger cup and then put the solos into that larger cup, bottom watering in the process.

Day 13 above soil. Almost lights-out time.

Looks like we're already slated to start feeding on the next watering huh? Coties are starting to yellow as well as what's happening on the broad one (I've got to get better at names, they'll be done growing by the time I figure it out). Sounds like calmag def which hopefully should be fixed with a starter dose of Grow Big. I only say 'cause I haven't been able to grab a bottle of calmag yet. Any thoughts folks?

This lad was definitely slowed down after our bottle incident, but seems to be recovering fine.
20240417_211835_(1).jpg

This one looks a little stressed.
20240417_211738_(1).jpg

Feed me, Seymour!
I imagine our unstable RH problems don't help with some of the stresses in here. I'm going to start trying to condition air outside the tent with my cheap electrode boiler, but the problem here is I don't get RO water by the 5-gal jugs like I did 6 years ago. So I've got to start putting out big buckets of water to dechlorinate & having limited strength & mobility don't make it easy. (I personally love the "pool smell", but share my room with someone who hates it) ..
20240417_211712_(1).jpg

This one's a normal plant, with dotted coties.
20240417_211700_(1).jpg

This is Ass Hat. Ass Hat sprouted upside down.

I'm thinking we got 2 or so days 'til the soil is dry enough for a watering so, we start at a 1/4 dose of Grow Big yes? Sounds like an idea.

I have a Canuk Puk (and some other supplies) on the way :hookah: 6 Northern Lights Fem seeds, 3 Blueberry Fem seeds, 3 Pure CBD Auto Fem seeds, all for later ventures. I'm antsy about it but I know 5 plants in a 2x2 is more than enough

One plant in a 2x2 is more than enough. You'll have to flower them pretty small to make it work.
That's the plan, however the sheer number of plants is just to account for not knowing the sex of any of them or how they will grow. The number is sure to go down.
Does the feed schedule call for 1/4 dose at this time? I'd work with the manufacturers plan or someone who's used this regularly.
That's a better idea actually, now that I look closer there's literally measurements for seedlings along the lines of what I was already planning. Been a while since I did all this, FWIW my first grows involved trying to use hydro nutrients in soil.

End of day 15. Feeding begins, following the 2.5ml per gallon starter dose and seeing where that takes us. If calmag is still a problem I should have some by tomorrow.
I'm getting a feeling they could be growing a little slow when compared to what many others have around two weeks. But they're still growing & I'm still learning so things are going well.
There's no 5gal buckets around the house I can use to dechlorinate water, so I'll be picking up a couple
Meanwhile, I'm using off-the-shelf water for nute solution. PH in 6.1, out 6.1... Under by just a hair.
20240419_173739.jpg

Switched the fan out. Temps have only been getting down to 75°f at night for the past few days & upper 80's during the day, with low-mid 90's every now and then. Praying for no more low-60's nights until I get some controllers.

Some of the droopiness has eased off since I took these pictures. Love to see it.

Ass Hat (last picture) started to fall over so I added some soil around the stem.

I realized that my memories got replaced with something that didn't happen. I thought that I had ordered FF Bush Doctor & that it would be here tomorrow, not the case! I got Botanicare calmag.
