OldManJJ Grows With The Mars Hydro FC 3000

Okay, here we go. I am finally making some time to update this journal. Things have been a little hectic lately and I spent a month in Florida with only a phone and a work laptop. Can't come on here from the work computer and the damned phone is just too small :/

The plants are doing great under the @Mars Hydro FC3000. They are stretching more than I like but that could be the minimal training or the PFD of the light. Regardless of the extra stretch, the buds are looking great and are super frosty. Much frostier than the Blueberry I have in my other tent under different LED's.

They have been getting GeoFlora nutrients, CalMag Plus (Once a week until yesterday, I decided to add some extra and will add some with every watering until about week 8 of flower) and sweet stash (All Day Organics). I am also adding a couple TDrops to each gallon of water to help kill the damned little black bugs (Maybe fungus gnats).

These girls are starting their 7th week of flower, I haven't checked trichomes yet but will start around week 8/9.

Here are the girls under the FC3000:

And for comparison, here is the blueberry in my other tent. Notice this one hasn't stretched much and is starting to show her fade much earlier. Not sure what the difference is. Lights? Maybe? C02? Maybe. Except for a slight difference in RH, the environment is pretty much the same and the watering feeding has been 100% equal. Maybe some of you can weigh in on the differences between the plants.

I vote for just different phenos

Update Time!!

The girls will be 10 weeks in flower on Friday.

I continue to be impressed with the @Mars Hydro FC3000, the light is fantastic, heat is easy to maintain and it is producing some of the frostiest buds I have grown to date.

I thought the girls would have been ready to come down by now but, they have other ideas. The leaves are just starting to get their fall colors and are looking fantastic.

Here is some porn:

I am checking trichomes often and am hoping these girls make it easy on me by finishing up this weekend, LOL.

While I am very impressed with the Mars Hydro light, I can't say the same for my growing method this round. Since I have changed soils and fertilized with the GeoFlora nutrients, my yields have dropped significantly. For example, I my large tent on my first ever run, we pulled 3.5 LBS of flower + quite a bit of trim/shake. Average per plant was 6.8 Oz. The last run in my large tent (no journal, sorry) only yielded 1 lb 2.9 oz for an average of 2.7 Oz per plant, significantly less. Perhaps the quality of the herb will be better but, I'm not sure it will be that much better, time will tell.

After this journal completes, I will take a break from growing as I will have quite a large amount for my smoking/eating/sharing pleasure. Once I start another run, based on the results I will return to using 100% organic soil with no nutes like I did on my first run.

Hey @oldmanjj Garden looks fantastic. :welldone:
I'd give them a week then check tric's.

Stay safe
Bill

@Bill284 ahhh, if only I could. Time is not on my side. I'll be returning to Florida for a month late next week. I came home to deal with the last of the harvest, LOL. I don't want to put it all on my daughter. I'm hoping to get these processed and ready for jars before I go, then I can let my auto burp contraption do it's magic!

Good lord there's some monsters in there. Nice.

I apologize, my memory isn't what it used to be. :Namaste:
It wasn't any good before.
Shut your lights off and go for it.
They are in the window.
And it has to be done.

Stay safe

Ok, the girls have started their 36 hour dark period. This is the first time I will get to try this method and see if there is a difference. We will begin the chop Saturday!

Exciting! You can find plenty of info on here that it works and plenty of folks who believe it does. Me included even if I don't always do it. And science aside, simple logic says that since the plant is much more active in terms of trichome/terpene production at night, keeping them in an extended dark before the chop can only have a positive effect. Least that's what my logic says, lol. Having done it I'd also say it works, although I didn't get before and after pictures of the exact same trichome patch on the same bud. That might be a way to tell the story pretty clearly. But I sure did notice the increase in the odor when I opened the door to the closet she had been left alone in for 36 hours. Good luck!!!!

Chopped!

I can say that these are the stickiest plants I have grown to date. I hope it smokes well!

The @Mars Hydro FC3000 performed extremely well. A solid light, great price point and the results were as expected.

The results, not good but that is my fault, I wasn't around to train them well so I ended up with a lot of flarf buds. The buds up top were sticky, frosty and dense, the ones below, not so much. Proper training would have netted me better buds all around but it is what it is.

There was so much sugar on the plant that I kept way more plant material than I normally do, hopefully I can turn it into some fantastic edibles. For the buds, I am estimating 2-3 zips tops, not my best effort.

Based on this and my test run in the other tent, I will be returning to my original soil and a scrog net. I realized that training, separation are much easier and the yields were way better. I can't wait to see what this fantastic light does on the next run.

Having said that, I am taking a break for a bit. I have more weed than I currently know what to do with, LOL. I will most likely not grow in the winter either. I hate snow and I GTF out of the cold weather for a warmer climate as much as possible. That makes grows during the winter challenging to say the least.

The plants were wet trimmed, de-stemmed and placed in paper bags on my drying rack. I should get a 6-7 day dry on them and then they will go into my homemade burp-o-matic 1000, LOL.

What is a burp-o-matic 1000 you ask? Great question!

You will need the following:

Food grade buckets with lid
Check valves (allows air to flow in one direction only)
Air pump
Air tubing
Air manifold (optional depending on how many outlets your air pump has and how many buckets you use)
Drill and appropriately sized drill bit
Timer

In each bucket you will drill a hole on each side of the bucket. One at the bottom and one at the top. The bottom allows air in and the top allows air out. Using the tubing and check valves, make your connections and test them. Ensure the check valves are oriented properly. You want air to come in at the bottom, go through your weed and out the top. Set your timer for 30 min, once a day and leave them be. You now have your very own burp-o-matic 1000. Note: This is not my idea, I found it on youtube and constructed my own. LAZYNESS is the mother of invention!!!

Wow. That beats burping the damn things all the time for a week or whatever. I already have the right buckets. Hmm. How big a pump do I need for a 5 gallon bucket and what size tubing? Assume two buckets at a time - do I need a manifold or will I find a pump with two posts?

@Jon you can find pumps with 2 outlets, I will take a picture of the one I'm using. Tubing was just standard aquarium tubing, it's a tight fit but that's what you want. You don't need a massive pump, the idea is to vent the gasses and replace it with clean air, you don't want to blast them!!

Okay, the buds and trim are pretty much ready to jar, a day quicker than I was hoping but, it is what it is here in the winter. Cold and dry.

2.5 OZ of bud, maybe 1/2 oz of good trim and the rest of the trim from this plant is the flarf and sugar leaves that I will turn into edibles. 2 Plants total.

Now on to the other tent that was not in a journal.

White Cookies, 4 plants:

12.5 OZ Plus trim

OG Kush, 2 plants

~7 OZ plus trim

Blueberry, 1 plant

3.6 OZ Plus trim

Total haul under the Mars hydro: 2.5 OZ bud and probably 3-4 OZ trim

Total Haul of the other tent: 23.1 OZ Plus 8-10 OZ trim.

Overall, it wasn't a terrible haul. Unfortunately, it was far less than the 3.5 LBS I pulled out of this tent on my first soil run.

Enjoy the porn!!

Congratulations! Ok, so it's not what you wanted. I bet what there is is real good. Interesting how big a difference between the two tents. And it sure looks yummy. Don't forget my friend, you left others in charge of this grow with frequency, did you not? Not at all suggesting your assistants aren't qualified, just saying do you think that maybe made a difference? Gotta be tough dividing your time between vacation house here and growing at home. Not that you couldn't have worse problems. Lol. Nice job. Next up?
