Volksball's Second Waltz With The White Widow, 2019

Aaaaand we are chopped. The harvest was a good one. A few ambers popped up on each, or I finally saw

They're hangin in the tent now. Aiming for 62% for the next 7-10.

The biggest plant yielded 915g wet. Didn't care to spend the time weighing the rest. Dry makes more sense. My wife was the chopper and I was the trimmer. Saintly.

A couple massive colas had to be weighed. The winner was an 80g wet one.

Thanks everyone for all of the help to get to this point and to exceed my first grow. I may have actually learned a thing or two.

Day 139/79F

Cheers!
V

Great looking lineup Volks... now you need to have the patience ;)
And we wait. I'm happy to wait. Still feeding of the last grow, so waiting isn't a problem. I'm interested in paper bags before jars, if that cures nicer.

The tough thing is, we leave for 5 days next week, so leaving jars closed for 5 days, while that wet still worries me.

Ideas?

Maybe try the slo n dry method

Ah perfect. I'll have a read. Thank you.

Into the fridge they go in the brown paper bags you mentioned. Wet in a jar for 5 days and say goodbye to all your hard work!
Yep, that's exactly what I was thinking. I couldn't leave them hanging for two weeks, and I'd come home to an elementary school science experiment if I jarred them right away.

I remember you mentioning the paper bags in the fridge.

I read Sauga's Low and Slo method. Seems easy enough. Buds into bags, burp and shuffle in 3 days, then again 3 days later. Two weeks, jars when 62ish.

How does this differ from the fridge/bag method? And if I'm gone 5 days, I wouldn't be opening and rustling.

Thx again..

That is the fridge bag method. Plenty of time to jostle between now and when you leave!
Thanks, @InTheShed and @MrSauga

So, if I'm getting this right, I plan to take them down from their hangers on Friday and bag them an oz at a time as Sauga advises. Place them in paper bags, laid on their sides, in the fridge, jostling them on Monday morning before we leave. We return on Friday, which will be my next jostling opportunity. Four days, no jostling. Do this for two weeks or once down to 65%-ish, I remove from bags, trim and jar with Bovedas.

Does that make sense? Would either of you gents change a thing to to that plan?

And if not, I'm assuming that I'm using hygrometers in the bags? And what temp do I want the fridge at?

Thanks again.

Ideally the fridge should be around 40-45F. The RH of the fridge should be 45-50% which seems to be the norm at those temps. The RH will go up and down as the fridge cycles when the buds are in there.
You really want to trim and then go straight into the bags. If you have them hanging for a while then I'm not sure how that would work.
If you do a bud wash the buds need to hang dry for around 4 hours before going into the bags and fridge.
You want 1 to 1.5 oz per paper bag. If you have lots of popcorn buds you can afford to add a little more to the bag.

Don't jostle to hard or you risk damaging the trichomes. I reach inside and rotate the buds gently trying to use the stems. Speaking of which, place the buds in the bag so the buds are inside first. That way you can move things around without touching the good parts :)

Thanks for clarifying. Now, if I wasnt mistaken, your low and slow method said to trim before jarring. That seemed to make sense to me, as the sugar leaves protect the buds when rolling in the bags, no? I may be wrong though.

Leaving the sugars on is a personal preference. There isn't much to trim really as most of it falls off in the bag. I trim mine pretty close leaving only the parts of the sugar leaf that is actually coated since I'm my only customer and bud appeal is not that concerning to me but thos sticky trichs are :)

Hey guys,

Pulling down the branches yesterday and trimming, I noticed a bit of crunchiness to them. The tent was perpetually at 62%.

I paper bagged an oz at a time and put them in the fridge with hygrometers in the bags and one outside of them on the fridge rack.

This morning, the fridge was at 29% and the wettest bag was at 50%. I decided to do a jar test to see what one of each plant sould settle at and the driest was at 48% and the wettest at 62%. I cant explain why the dryness, but its troubling.

That said, I took everything out of bags and jarred them with humidipacks. Leaving for a week, I couldn't risk continued drying, when they're already below the jarring threshold.

In total, I have 31oz jarred, humidified and now refrigerated to be able to slow any processes down while were gone.

I'll burp them a few times before we go tomorrow, then have a buddy come by and do the same a couple times in the next week, before we return.

All seemed to be going well, so I cant explain the quick dry, but i hopefully caught it soon enough to be able to re-humidify them back to 62%.

Anyone see issue with this plan?

Thanks,
V
