1st Ever Attempt

I started an indoor grow tent all for $AU160.
60*60*160, plus a 300w led. And a cheap $12 fan from bigw.

I have a dying basil plant that's been repotted in it for the moment, just to see how it all works.

Very cool! You will enjoy growing very much! Do you have an in-line fan? You won’t need it right now necessarily, but later when plants are in flower, you will want it to help prevent bud rot.

if not an in-line fan, then an extraction point and an entrance point with fresh air.

do you have any seeds awaiting your germination?

I think I just made a base growing mix, mostly premium potting mix, 1/5th worm castings, and some permalite. Let me know if this is wrong. There are also a few worms in there, should I remove them?

I also have some of this to put in the base of the final pot. Is this correct?

Yes you’ll wanna get rid of the worms. Can transfer up to the plant come time and possibly gnaw on the seed? Shoot idk... I know I wouldn’t keep them in there.

that’s a brick of coco coir. I’ve grown with that once. You’ll have to re hydrate that. The way I did it was put it in a 5 gal bucket with holes drilled into the bottom. Put the bucket in another 5 gal bucket that had no holes in it. Filled it with water. After 24 hours I drain for 24 hours. Then it’s good for a plant to be transplanted into it. The goal with coco is to not let it dry out 100%... daily feedings, and can be twice a day sometimes. It’s not considered a soil grow but a hydro grow rather. So ph will be around 5.8 for your water. Lots of great benefits growing in coco!

Ok thanks, I thought the coco would sit in the lower quarter of the final growing pot.

I kept the plant way too low from the lights as I have not done much research, it has a long stem and small leaves, as you can tell from the picture. I've fixed this by using milk crates to get it closer to the LEDs, overnight the difference was massive, see 2nd pic, I water 30ml tap water every 2 days and will then add 30ml diluted worm juice on a Saturday.

Once my "proper" seeds arrive and germinate, this one will go outside.

Looks fine to me!!

the distance should be 2 feet from the top of the plant for veg, and closer to 18 inches for flower.

You can fix the stretchy stem by covering it up with more soil. Either in the pot like it is, or when you transplant.

also, keep a small fan in there blowing in its general direction. It will imitate the wind from outside and help strengthen the stem up for you!!

Ok so I have good seeds popping out of the soil mix in a plastic cup, I'm a bit confused as to how close the new seedling's should be to the LEDs light, it is a cheap led, ive read from 8" to as close as you can to 36" which is in the page that came with the light, the light is either on or off, ive got them about 20" away for the moment.

It's a bubba kush strain which should be easy to grow.

Growth medium is mainly quality potting soil with a little permalite and some coco coir. Will be watering with diluted worm tea. When it hits flower stage I'll hit it with some rose flower booster. Also my landlord ) neighbour has given me permission to grow 6 plants, I might cut that down to 1 outside and 2 in the tent.

Normally it’s 2’ above canopy for veg, then closer to 18” for flower. Rule of thumb is, if the plant is working towards the light, the lights at a good height. If it’s working away from the light, it’s too close. I’d start at 2’ and access the situation, if the plant seems to be working away from the light, raise it up another foot, then lower as needed. Normally it’s about 2’ for “cheap led’s”.

you can also use the hand method, put you’re hand under the light, palm down, if it’s uncomfortable for you, it’s uncomfortable for you’re plants.

It’s best to start out in a simple medium. You’ve got the best of both worlds there. Coco is considered a hydro grow and recommends a PH from 5.6-5.8 but a soil grow recommends for a ph of 6.2-6.5

so you may run into issues you may not, time will tell. A great medium I recommend to start in for you’re first grow, is 100% worm castings mixed 50/50 with perlite. Plants love it, it’s damn near dummy proof.

permission to grow 6 plants
But.... 4 is our legal limit in Canada.... he knows that right?

or wait.... are you in Canada?

Im not judging, I’ve grown more then 4 at one time, just passing along the info :thumb:
