Barbara Bud - CFL - Soil - Tent Grow

Look forward to seeing and hearing what you think of it.

It's hard to tell now.. but my plant seems to love it. It actually added a lot of red to the spectrum which the plant seems to need at this stage. I'm getting more of a yellow light now than a bright white.

Today is veg week 4 day 29. I haven't given it any nutrients at all yet. Plan on vegging for another 2 weeks max.

Today is veg day 32 (on week 4). It's been growing and bushing out quite a bit every night.. I still plan on flowering it around December 23rd-24th.

Not a hint of any issue that my newbie eye can see.

Yeah... the only thing anyone has really pointed out was that I keep my lights really close to the plant.. which I do purposely. I noticed the tips are kind of yellowing on a couple of the very bottom leaves, but this is normal with age I guess. Need to keep an eye on it to see if or when it needs nutrients.:thumb:

Today is veg week 5 (day 36) and everything seems to be doing alright. I'm going to veg for 1 more week to get the plant to about 1 foot to 1 1/2 feet in height before flowering.

I started it on a dose of Schultz Liquid Plant Food.. about 5-6 drops per 500ml watering. The plant doesn't really need it but as long as it doesn't burn... why not?

On wednesday I switched it's lights to a flowering cycle. It's been 3 days now and I'm pretty sure I can see female pistons starting to show... but it's still too early to call it a girl yet.

The lights I switched to are...

1 x 125w 6500K/2700K
1 x 50w 4000K
1 x 125w 2100K
2 x 23w 2700K

Majority of the light is around 2000-3000K.

I got a bit of nutrient burn on a couple of my bottom leaves... so I flushed it twice and quit giving it nutrients. Guess there's already enough in the soil.

haha yeah I never really thought about it that way..

I swapped out my 125w 6500K/2700K Dual Spectrum for a single 100w 2700K. Just wanted to eliminate 6500K from the spectrum completely. I feel it could be slowing flowering.

It's also about a week into flowering and I'm proud to say that it's a female!

Today is week 1 flower. I did a bit of trimming on the top branches to get some light to lower nodes. Removed about 4 leaves.

GST checks are out on the 5th so I'll be adding in two Sun Blaster 2700K T5's for about $100 for both ($32 for each ballast and 2 6500K T5's... and another $9 for each 2700K T5).

I also plan on adding another 2 at the end of the month (to the 2 I'm buying on the 5th) so that I have 4 total, one for each corner of my tent to run vertically.

I forget what the wattage of each are but they are about 3,500 lumen each.

I'm buying four of the 20s, not the 18s.

Today is flower week 2 (day 56). Ir has female pistons showing everywhere now..

I know it's a little close to the light right now but I'll move it down tonight.

A better shot of one of my tops.

I trimmed up the bottom today. It doesn't look like much, but there was a TON taken off... over a good handful.

Should get quality bud sites producing even more now.

I'm not at home right now so I wasn't able to get a photo of it... but I think my plant has either a nitrogen or zinc deficiency. At first I thought I was burning the plant with my light but now I noticed that it spread to lower levels.

The leaf is basically turning brown right at the tips and the leaf itself is turning multi-colored by having a light neon green/yellow near the edges and still dark green more towards the center... anyone know what exactly is going on?

I have bloom nutrients but I'm scared to use to since last time I did... I burnt and killed my plant. So I started it on doses of Schultz Liquid Plant Food (all purpose) to see if I can revive the plant a bit for the next couple weeks before the great flush.

Day 69

I read your journal and I have a couple bits of advice for you...

1st, I would stop cutting your plants in the first couple weeks...topping, FIM and defoliating all stress the young plant and slow the growth and can cause the plant to hermie and or other issues with the plants immune system, making it more susceptible to pests.

You can top it FIM the plant early if you are looking to develop branches early but you should probably just pick one style of stress, either FIM, top or defoliating. I really would avoid defoliating until she is at least 3-4 weeks old.

As far as yellowing leaves and tips...I agree that it could be nutrient burn or a deficiency but I would look at your water and PH first. If you are using tap water or bottled spring water, I would stop and switch to RO or distilled water. Incorrect ph and or dissolved solids in your water can cause soil lock and result in yellowing leaves.

I would start by leaving the plant alone for a full week. Only give her distilled water when she needs it and see what happens.

You have some great genetics and she should produce some amazing flowers.

On cloning...you do not lose genetic material when cloning...the old wives take about plants losing vigor etc is a result of poor light spectrum, improper root maintenance and possible virus in the plant due to poor plant management/sterility. You should be able to clone for several generations without losing vigor or production potential.

Good luck! I will be watching this grow finish up...I've got a 6 pack of the Barbara bud to run next...
