First timer facing rain and hurricane and no protection - Trichomes clear still: Harvest it?

Good afternoon all, hope your day is going great.
First, I know nothing about strains, just from last years smoke. If y’all have a chance, any comments on my issues are welcome. Got the chance of big rains and hurricane Ian. Also buds getting heavy and some drooping, just 2 so far. Got one supported with cheesecloth and string and the next day standing better and removed it. Then another started laying over a bit last night.
I never thought I would ever be this successful so I did not think to put out tomato cages or anything. I cannot put up anything to protect from rain. Not able to build a trellis system. Finally do you see any problems with the kolas currently?

If buds start drooping real low I can try to secure with poles somehow, I assume but I know to chop it if Ian comes, but what if a ton of rain is heading at me? Do I harvest even if not mature (pics included) . In the ground, not in pots. I have high rh here as I have mentioned previously and don’t want to blow it now.

If y’all have no time to answer or I am asking to much, you don’t know how much I understand if you can’t answer.

Thanks for everything everyone.

ps nice rose. just got this cam and liked

Hey Richie. Best of luck with the weather, be safe.

Congrats on a successful grow so far, they look great but probably not ready yet.

Not sure about quick-fix hurricane protection. I could suggest knocking a 6foot piece of pvc or metal pipe 2feet in to the ground and dropping a large patio umbrella in the pipe.
But that could likely cause more harm than good if it were to end up through a window or worse.
That’s probably better suited for simple rains with no greenhouse.

As far as holding the heavy colas up, nice job there :) bamboo sticks and rubber coated wire work pretty well.

I’m in Northern California and we got hit SUPER hard last Saturday. It wasn’t a hurricane though. My plants were bent over and soaked. No broken branches. I spent the next dry day and a half removing all the leaves to increase air flow to avoid rot and to reduce weight. The colas are all standing up a week later. Training the plants for long colas causes the stalks on these white widows to be strong enough to support late flower weight without any support. Also very flexible like weeping willow whips. Just watching everything closely for rot till I cross the finish line. I think in your situation I’d get some hog wire or chicken wire cages to protect from heavy wind.

Even through a lot of hurricanes, over 70, and know what to expect and they will come down, ready or not. I guess my 2 questios were about health of buds and too much rain.

One thing you can do after the buds are soaked is spray them down with a potassium bicarbonate solution to RAISE the pH up over 8 in the wet buds. Mold can’t live in those conditions.

No shit! I get nervous like it was 1978–you‘ll see me more active on 420 this time of year cuz I gotta guard the crop so I’m home a lot —probably in my head. People grow in their front yards around here and you can see a commercial pot farm from the Highway in my town as vivid as a grape vineyard.
Im happy once most of its hanging. Just cut 1 down this morning-a indica heavy gelato—for oil. I like sativas for smoking—white widow that was crossed back with a Brazilian sativa is what I got going this year along with a few more gelatos.

Hey,guys, already asked but things are evolving. Basically my original question stated better.

Good evening and I hope everybody’s having a jamming night. I am a hobbyist in coastal North Carolina who threw some seeds in the ground and ended up with some pretty nice plants. They are right in my backyard behind several large bushes with neighbors all around. Right now they’re not in view, but if I put up any type of beach umbrella, clear plastic sheathing, or anything well, I just can’t do that. I don’t have any pictures from the last three days or so however the last time I took them I could tell they were not ready, at least from the stuff I’ve been reading everywhere. Several people confirmed saying about 2 to 3 weeks out.

So my predicament is, I can’t protect them from the rain, it’s looking like a whole bunch of rain is coming, I don’t think they’re ready yet, could use another couple weeks, but I’m gonna have to chop this weekend unless somebody has any ideas out there, I would sure love to hear it.

Again, there is no type of protection I can put in place. Here is my latest pics. I know that if I harvest early it’s not gonna be nearly what it could’ve been but it’s better to have something than nothing.

Pics, 1 from the very point in the ground to show location, the closeups are from about 2 weeks ago or a bit less. All the rest are from Friday. Ok, I have a biology degree in fisheries, I study well, but trying to act like I know jack shit about this, I do not. But here I go, in the closeups too soon for sure. Trichomes look pretty clear. My latest bud picks show pistils clear but not Trichomes. From what I have read, pistils can indicate as well, just not as well, and the indicator is not color changing pistils, but when they change and start to curl in towards the inside.

Ok, hopefully that did not sound stupid and I know it is a simple question. Let the rain ruin it or cut early…

Thank you in advance, you guys rock. I just joined and I’ve already read a lot of posts and got a lot of information. If you’re on the East Coast, button down the hatches. Especially if you’re in the Outer Banks.

it.
Can you repot it and bring inside? I think that’s what I would do before chopping early. Good Luck CL🍀

I'd put a stake in the ground and bunch the plant up in a roll of chicken wire attached to it
Any kind of canopy will catch the wind so just let the wind go through it and don't worry about the rain, it'll dry out when you take the cage away and open her up again

Pot them asap and get them inside if you can, to finish. They won't even care a bit.

What size pot do you think it would need?

It’s not very tall. Secure a small tarp to the fence and attach it to a few shorter poles in the ground on the other side for a runoff slope.
If the neighbours see the tarp just higher than the plant then they must also see the plant.

If there is absolutely no way to cover it with basic shelter then I’m stumped 🤷🏼‍♂️

What you do to uppot/ transplant is fill the new container to the top with soil, pre-dig a hole and cover/dust heavily with Myco. It helps to lightly mist with water both the hole + rootball for the Myco to stick. Place rootball in hole and lightly pack. Your plant will be in shock for a few days so it’s important not to expose it to intense sunlight for a few days. When you see it’s adjusted to it’s new home continue to grow as normal. Note I’ve never repotted a flowering plant. Good luck CL🍀

It’s decision time. No protection available, up to 40 sustained and gusts to 70, lots of rain. looking at Hours of torrential rain. Can’t really do anything except leave it and pray or take it and pot it or chop. It’s a bit more maturee I think since my last pics so any opinions? Do you know I appreciate them all. Are they close enough, tricks loook opaque vs a week ago. Again, please leg,me know your, thoughts Take a chance or harvest tonight I have 3 plants 2 are of the American strain and the third is smaller.

40-70 winds, 3-6 inches of torrential rain, starts around 10 pm tonight. I have been traveling on business. You see this storm on tv. I have no way to protect them in the time remaining. Are they close enough? Have changed a bit in 4 days. Please look at maturat and tell me if I chop, or not.
Thanks

Rich

That’s one helluva good idea. I believe I’d either do that or try to re-pot it. I think if you dig deep and wide, then transfer into a giant pot, it may stress it but will do far less damage than a hurricane.
If you were a couple more weeks along, I’d say chop it. But from what I see you’ve got a ways to go and I’m not sure you’d have buds that you look forward to smoking….not b/c they don’t look good or you haven’t done your job. In 3-4 weeks I bet it will be fire….so good luck.
