Garage Kind Soil Dolato & GG4 2020

Grow info:
Tent: 4x4x6.5ft
Strains: Dolato and Gorilla Glue #4
Medium: 2.5 lbs of Kind Soil for nutrients with a basic coco coir based soil top layer and bark at the bottom to keep the soil in
Pot size: ~3 gallon (just had them laying around)
Light: 400w HPS
Temperature: I lost my thermometer but since it in my garage the temp fluctuates between 80-60F
Cooling: single oscillating desktop fan
Watering schedule: once a day

After ~1-2 month of veg they're set to start flowering light schedule tonight.

I decided to flower them because they're starting to get a little difficult to keep maintained without a scrog net. The Kind Soil should be able to keep them in veg a bit longer but I wanted to play it safe. Plus I plan on changing to a hydro system but am waiting on the last of the supplies. I've taken 3 cuttings from the GG4 and about 6 from the Dolato.

The Dolato is the one tied down. (on the left)

Day 2
The Dolato's preflowers are starting to develop and grow larger.

Day 3
Not much to report but here's another pic

Day 4 (day of this post)
They are both visibly bigger. Id estimate around an inch of growth since the start of flowering and the leaves are getting large again. I tied the branches of both plants down to level out the canopy. The Dolatos preflowers are even bigger than before and I think I'm starting to see trichomes forming.

This will be the last photos for a little while as I'm leaving town for a few days but have someone else taking watering them in the mean time. I'll update with more pics when I get back.

Day 15
I'm finally back. The person who took care of them doesn't really have any experence gardening. They just kind of dumped water on them. That eroded the soil and exposed some of the roots so I put some more soil over the exposed roots. The plants look alright though and grew significantly since my last photos. The buds are really starting to develop and its starting to smell dank in the tent. The cuttings I took all died while I was away. The person taking care of the plants didn't even mention it until I got back. I now have only these two growing and no cuttings. I'm thinking about taking some new cuttings and defoliating a little bit. They're still pretty early into flowering so I dont think it would stress them too much. I made a post asking for advice here if you have any please respond there.

How's it going there @Dr Krieger :passitleft:...I have to be honest doc, you have an unorthodox method, but it seems to be working for you  plants actually look pretty good :high-five: a little small, but good :thumb:

I'll tag along from time to time, if you don't mind
What exactly do you mean by an unorthodox method? It's my first super soil grow so I definitely have been trying to figure things out as I go. My first grow ended with a 6ft monster with a bunch of popcorn bud so im trying to avoid that and keep them shorter this time with a bunch of tops at around the same length. I think they're a little small because I took a bunch of cuttings. They also got a little stressed since I took a while to get my grow area set up and didn't have nutrients or a PH tester so they only got tap water. They were a bit rootbound in the solocups I bought them in since I took so long to get them into their current pots with the super soil.
Hello, I’ll tag along if that’s ok,They r coming along, it’s weird how they r putting Out mostly 3 petal leaves, I wonder why that is? Maybe genetics
The stress from all that may also be why they're small and the fan leaves are only growing in sets of 3 right now. They also were the only clones available where I bought them at the time so it could be genetics.

Mine do that sometimes when they're re-veg clones, they'll get more when they mature :thumb:

Just never seen that style :passitleft: And I usually let them get a little bigger...here's my GG#4 at around 3.5 weeks in flower

Those look nice. I'm in a 4x4 tent currently with just that single 400w HPS light for them both which makes me afraid they will grow out of control/area the light can effectively reach if I didn't keep them small. I also wanted some CBD strains originally so not too concerned about yields from these two. In fact I was hoping to pick one or two up while I was away on vacation but never got a response from the producers I contacted.

Day 16
I ordered some clonex gel online and have a humidity dome, starter tray, rapid rooter plugs and a spray bottle already. I plan on taking 2-6 cuttings of each and placing some into the clone king and some into the plugs with clonex in the tray with a dome and heat mat. I'll wait until the clonex arrives so I can watch how well they compare in recovery and growth with the different methods.

I noticed the GG4s lower leaves are having some issues. The tips seem to be turning yellow at the tips of the lowest leaves.

Day 18
I was busy and unable to take pictures. I still watered just in the dark.

Day 19
It was another busy day but I was able to take pictures and water right before the lights went out for the day. The leaves on the GG4 look the same as before. I think whatever issue they had happened when I was away and I didn't notice until day 17. I will be cutting clones tomorrow some in a clone king and others with rapid rooters, clonex and a humidity dome.

Day 20
20200715_172106.jpg
I bought a temperature and humidity gauge for the tent and clones. I'll be updating with the temp an humidity from today on.

I cut clones and did a lot more defoliating than I planned today. I feel like I went a little overboard with the defoliating but light can reach all the bud sites and the airflow is better plus the plant was already stressed from cutting clones.
Hello, I’ll tag along if that’s ok,They r coming along, it’s weird how they r putting Out mostly 3 petal leaves, I wonder why that is? Maybe genetics
When I was defoliating I noticed all the newer leaves now have 5 not 3 blades now. I think it was just stress on the plant that was the cause.

20200715_173101.jpg

I cut 9 clones total 4 GG4 and 5 Dolato. 2 large cuttings of each and 2-3 smaller ones. One large and one small were dipped in clonex, placed in rapid rooters then put in the tray with a heat mat and humidity dome. The others were simply placed into the clone king and misted.

I just moved the temp and humidity gauge so the high and lows aren't right.
20200715_182730.jpg
Just like the mothers Dolato on the left and GG4 on the right for the clone king and tray.
20200715_182546.jpg

The larger cuts were a bit big for the dome but I dont think it should hurt too much.

Day 21
Basically the same as yesterday for the plants.

At around midnight my fiancée told me there was a skunk in the garage. We leave some wet food and kibble for the outdoor cats at the edge of the garage. We found the adult skunk eating the cats wet and dry food. The food is less than 20 feet from the grow tent so I thought I'd post about it. The picture isn't the best but I didn't feel like being sprayed so I took it through the garage door.
20200717_222411.jpg

You might need to full screen the image to see it. Anyone have experience with a skunk spraying near their grow? Would you give the buds a tomato wash or something?

I'm leaving again for 2 days and have that same person taking care of them while I'm away. I've corrected them on their watering technique and told them to mist the clones. Fingers crossed it goes better than last time.

Realized the day for the last post was wrong but cant edit it anymore.
Day 27
I got back again and nothing died this time! The person watering still eroded a bunch of soil after I told them to go slower and cover half of the spout with a finger but its not as bad as last time.
20200722_171431.jpg

20200722_171640.jpg There's a bit of a heat wave right now. I'm a little worried about temps so I'm going to put another fan in the tent tomorrow since I can't control ambient temp very well in a garage and don't have space for them inside at the moment.

Day 28
I kept the lights on for an extra 40 minutes to finish watering, defoliating and adding a fan. I pulled all the fan leaves that were large or were going to end up as trim and likely block the other bud sites. I also added a second fan. After washing my hands 3 times they were no longer stickey but still smelled a bit.

Day 29
I just looked at the carbon filter and it looks filty. Mostly cat and people hair and some dust. I've decided I'll leave a branch I'd each to air dry and cure but the rest im going to try to wash and water cure. It will be my first time washing and water curing but I really like edibles anyway.
