Can you use a cfl without a ballast if it says self ballasted please help me settle this thank you

Being that is the definition of self ballasted, if it needs a ballast then it is mislabeled.

If it fits in a normal socket then it is, if it has pins on the bulb then it needs a ballast, least far as I know.

Heres another one for you is it better to hang my cfl vertically or horizontally, only i was thinking about hanging the light vertically
